Christian Anti-Defamation Coalition (A "We're sooo persecuted" right wing org) sticks foot in mouth
This group caused a stir on DU recently, some DU'ers even said this group may have had a valid point.

Well, look at what they're saying now!

Got this in my email spy account BTW, so there's no link.

"Dear Fellow Christians,

With the American presidential election looming, Americans who understand the need to follow the guidance of our founding fathers to include Christians in public office have little to choose from. Both Democrats and Republicans have both selected their candidates for President, one of which will ascend to the most powerful office in the land. Yet neither candidate has fully demonstrated the strong Christian foundation our country desperately needs for the future.

The Christian Anti-Defamation Commission is calling for each candidate to select a true Christian as a running mate for the all important 2008 elections. While it is impossible to know the heart of any individual, their profession of faith, lifestyle and policy positions must be considered. Today's world events and the prospects of lifetime appointments to the Supreme Court magnify the need to have our President hear the counsel from a Vice President who is fully committed to their Christian beliefs.

To accomplish this, the Christian Anti-Defamation Commission is asking for your help. YOU can make a difference in two meaningful ways!

Fax the chair person for the political parties in every state and request they encourage their party's candidates to select a TRUE Christian as a running mate in 2008."

So, let me guess, a "true Christian" is a Christian according to the definition of the Christian Anti-Defamation Coalition, right?

You'd think a group crying about persecution would be seeking allies and friends to get through their tough times, not seeking to foster division and chaos, it might be just me, but why would a group claiming it's persecuted act like it's got to get 100% of what it wants?

9. And so was I
But thinking on it, I'd love to see a few of these groups have to face a *true Scotsman* in a fight. I'd even bring the popcorn.

2. It's hard to be discriminated when you are in the majority.
Maybe the Christian Anti-Defamation Coalition is mistaking the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment of the Bill of Rights of the Federal Constitution for "discrimination". The courts are supposed to protect the rights of a religious minority or a non-religious group against the tyranny of the religious majority.

14. Wrong tests
A true Christian would give some kind words of support to a person with AIDS, share his meal with homeless person of a different race and tell the government -- in no uncertain words -- that the duty of the people is to the people, not to the mega-corporations and certainly not to mercenaries-for-hire.

You know, stuff that is much harder than walking on water and raising the dead. :eyes:

8. I'd love to hear what their definition is regarding a TRUE Christian.
Ted Haggard claimed to be a true Christian. And he even brought the meth to his boyfriends house. :sarcasm:

13. Which Christian Is The Real One?
I was walking across a bridge one day, and I saw a man standing on the edge, about to jump off.

So I ran over and said "Stop! don't do it!" "Why shouldn't I?" he said. I said, "Well, there's so much to live for!"

He said, "Like what?" I said, "Well...are you religious or atheist?"

He said, "Religious." I said,

"Me too! Are you Christian or Buddhist?"

He said, "Christian." I said, "Me too! Are you Catholic or Protestant?"

He said, "Protestant." I said, "Me too! Are you Episcopalian or Baptist?"

He said, "Baptist!" I said,"Wow! Me too! Are you Baptist Church of God or Baptist Church of the Lord?"

He said, "Baptist Church of God!" I said, "Me too! Are you Original Baptist Church of God, or are you Reformed Baptist Church of God?"

He said, "Reformed Baptist Church of God!" I said, "Me too! Are you Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1879, or Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1915?"

He said, "Reformed Baptist Church of God, Reformation of 1915!"

I said, "Die, heretic scum!", and pushed him off. -- Emo Phillips

And watch, before too long, some member of the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Outrage - Persecuted Christians Parish will be posting to show their "concern" that you're mistreating them.

15. Um, how is this any different from the Jewish Anti Defamation League?
Edited on Wed Jun-11-08 06:06 PM by shance
You seem to have a problem with a Christian organization reaching out to their supporters to get involved and support a Christian Candidate?

Um, when did that become wrong to do?

17. Wow, an ad hominem attack.
I think I am free to have a problem with something if I want and I'm also free to tell everyone else what my account is picking up, as well as provide my opinion on it.

And it is very different that what the Jewish Anti-Defamation League does, and there are some countries where Christians are indeed being persecuted (Saudi Arabia), but in the US? I don't think so.

And WHO would be a Christian candidate?

Me: Any person who says that he or she is a Christian.
Christian Anti-Defamation League: A person who they say is a Christian.

Maybe you should actually look at groups like the Christian Anti-Defamation League before accusing me of having a problem.
