USAF unit left stranded on return trip from Iraq (now with photos)
My dear Janet's nephew finally has returned home from Iraq!!! But listen to his unit's story:

The Air Force chartered a plane to bring his unit home. They stopped in Budapest, Iceland and then finally to Washington DC. At that point, the USAF travel people asked them who they were and what they were doing there! No one had planned on getting them from Washington to their base in Columbus, OH!!! They were told they could all go to the airport and catch flights in ones and twos over a day or so... They wanted to return AS A UNIT!

So, they rented 6 passenger vans and DROVE from Washington to Columbus and returned home AS A UNIT. They were greeted by family and friends, and their commander got volunteers to drive the darn vans BACK to Washington!!!

If the military can't even get a unit HOME, how bad do you think it is in Iraq?!?!?!?

Thay are all home safe and sound, mostly due to their own resources!!!

They though they were in BIG TROUBLE, but the base commander is getting the charges to the troops reimbursed!!!

Janet's mom and sister, his wife and son were on hand for the HOMECOMING!!!

NOW LET'S BRING EVERYONE ELSE HOME SAFE!!!

2. GREAT Pictures Rick
Fabulous. I will look at these a lot, genuine happiness on those faces.

But the story...oh my god...that is so unacceptable to this fifty something Air Force brat. I cannot imagine the horror that is Iraq.

So glad your nephew is home safe. Thanks to him for his service. And good on the base commander.

Bring them all home now. Take CARE of them when they come home.

Alyce

3. The important thing is, congress made sure Halliburton/KBR got their latest multibillion dollar
checks.

That's their definition of "supporting the troops".

Seriously, though, what a sad commentary on how the troops are truly getting fucked over in reality.

Glad your nephew made it back ok.

4. Welcome home.
Goes to show that our guys in uniform know how to organize themselves. It's the higher-ups who can't organize for peanuts.

Good luck to reuniting with your families. We here at DU wish all the men and women in the unit (and all in uniform) the very best. Thank you for your service.

The pictures make you want to cry.
