My Letter to San Francisco Chron, Re: Their recent Health Care OpEd

Re: Blue Shield’s CEO and his OpEd piece
The countries in this world that own a better democratic process and a healthier
lifestyle than ours all have more than two political parties. While we tout our
"freedom and liberty" more than any other nation, the reality is that with
Major Corporations' controlling our Congress by way of lobbyists, our nation
remains "free" from Universal Single Payer Health Care. Because of that omission
in national policy, most of us remain just one health disaster away from bankruptcy.

The Corporate Media is controlled by its advertisers. Last week, I read an OpEd
piece in the SF Chronicle written by the Current Head of Blue Shield. Bruce Bodaken's
thesis concerned the wondrous Health Insurance plan his company and others
would bring us, under the guise of Universal Health Care. And he insisted that
the consumers needed the health care industry's input since they were the "experts."

Not once did Mr. Bodaken refer to huge salaries that the health insurers'
CEO's are raking in. In some cases a single CEO makes more than the
2200 employees at a mid-sized hospital.
When you factor in the top execs’
salaries, it’s no wonder that 30 cents out of every one dollar spent on health care
goes to the health insurers. And like a pig at a trough, Bodaken wants it that way.

Only in America would a person who helped corrupt the Health Care System beyond
recognition be given a podium to convince us of our need for their industry's continued
inclusion. (If I ran the government, this man would be JAILED for all the lives he's
brought to ruin.) But his company pays a lot of money each year to the Chronicle - in the
form of ads for his company. So he will always be given a place at the discussion table.

The Corporate Media wonders why consumers don't rely on them any more, but rely
on established internet sites instead. The Chronicle with its Blue Shield OpEd was the
first newspaper I had bought in over three months. I had mistakenly believed this: that
since the Chron’s bad policies of recommending Bush's tax cuts and major wars had
finally been exposed as disasters, that maybe now their editorial policies were less geared
to Corporate Control. Silly me!
