So let me get this straight: Under Reagan, they started taxing unemployment "benefits"
(Which the "gutsy" Dems have gone along with, and never repealed)

And yet windfall oil profits *can't* be taxed, according to this same (utterly toxic) world view?

1. Clinton signed a bill to tax Social Security.
Of course he had a Republican congress. Both taxes hit low income people.

2. You got it
Taxes for monopoly corporations = bad
Taxes on workers making 1/1,000,000,000 that amount = good

3. Democrats will have to be poked and prodded into repealing those regressive taxes.
The Democrats who were in power in the 1980s right until they were booted out of power in 1994 are not the same kind of Democrats that were elected in the Roosevelt-Truman era.

4. Actually they started taxing 50% of benefits under Carter.
Reagan increased it to 100% of benefits.

I was collecting when Carter did it, and boy was I pissed. I was also unemployed again when Reagan did it.

10. Nixon was actually toying with idea of a national health care system
One of the reasons why the GOP didn't mind that the Democrats forced Nixon out.

Raygun firing those air traffic controllers, that pissed me off then and still pisses me off now when I think about it.

Edited on Wed Jun-11-08 06:15 PM by GTRMAN
Dad was a private pilot as well as an over the road trucker for a Teamsters outfit. He got so mad I thought he was going to throw the TV through the window :scared:
