SOVEREIGN ARAB FUND TO PAY $800M
By LOIS WEISS
June 11, 2008 --

The latest Big Apple trophy being coveted by oil-rich sovereign wealth funds is the landmark Chrysler Building.

Sources say the super-rich Abu Dhabi Investment Council is negotiating an $800 million deal for a 75 percent stake in the Art Deco treasure that has defined the Midtown skyline since 1930.

The Chrysler assets would be purchased from TMW - the German arm of an Atlanta-based investment fund that's been eager to cash out of its Chrysler stake.

1. I love that Art Deco building so much
Back in the '60s when I was in college, I worked one summer for the phone company in Manhattan. Our desks were all along a windowed wall facing out. I had a perfect view of the Chrylser Building. It was a gleaming sight.

2. Lol! In the 70's I had my own office on the 48th floor of the Chrysler Building.
My view was of the East River and I loved it. Very rarely did a day go by that I didn't appreciate working there. The lobby was gorgeous. Each elevator was original art deco with wood paneling and each was different within the different elevator banks. Sigh..... :)

8. Not really, they are known for mediocre beers. But then, I guess Bud

10. Before we all panic, remember how much of other countries Americans own
We are not, repeat, not screwn, folks. This is just a function of the globalization of capital.

11. Yes - but this source of $$ also staked a large share of BCCI and they wanted our ports not long ago
and they all should have been exposed and in jail by the end of the 90s, not protected by a Dem administration who would do whatever Poppy Bush needed and is now making millions from these same Dubai and Saudi royals protected by the deep-sixing of BCCI matters for Poppy Bush and his cronies.
