New fire in the Santa Cruz Mountains
near Bonny Doon. They expect it to get to 1000 acres soon. We've some got really low humidity and wind, and it's been HOT lately.

1400 people evacuated so far, some structures destroyed.

I see a huge amount of smoke from my house.

5. they don't seem too bad down here
just a little breezy in town. But that's more than we've had the last few days where it was just baking without the slightest breeze.

13. Yeah?
It was dead flat here the last two days - THAT was eerie.

Today it's normal here in town. They said winds about 25mph up in the hills.

16. Tim May will demand high level government fire protection. Geoff Dunn will organize
citizen fire defense teams.

KPIG will organize outlaw country benefits to raise money for refugees.

Cabrillo will launch a fire science program.

Global warming sucks. That's for sure.

11. got it
I'll let you know more when I learn it.

Up to 300 acres now, they're showing a house burning in a "neighborhood" of sorts. Houses not terribly close together (of course), but there are other houses around.

law enforcement were going door to door in the evacuation area warning residents to leave because not everyone in the area has a phone. After 4 p.m. crews closed Moon Rocks and Felton Empire. At least two residents on Martin Road reported not being able to leave their homes.

Stephanie Jessen, who has a house and a business on Ice Cream Grade and was preparing to evacuate, said her home was just one house upwind of the blaze. She said the fire was burning in the 500 wooded acres between Ice Cream Grade and the 800 block of Martin Road.

17. Thanks for the map
I have family visiting Santa Cruz today but it looks like they will avoid this area. Hope all stay safe and they get the fire out soon. I live in the north bay and we haven't had too many fires this year, yet. It looks like this year maybe a terrible fire season.

18. oh, anybody visiting SC is fine
and there's no problem with Highway 17, or even highway 9.

It's going to be a terrible year for fires. If it's this bad and it's only June... it's scary to think what'll happen come October. And we won't see a drop of rain between now and then.
