Omaha has tornadoes on the ground NOW second time in 4 days injury reports coming in

Eastern Nebraska and Western Iowa are under a WARNING. 40 boy scouts are reported injured in Little Sioux Iowa. Details as they come in will be added to this post. I'll stay online as long as I have power and we have the all clear. All my family members across both counties are in their basements.

8. Take care ... I can't remember this many tornados at any time in my 50 years
Edited on Wed Jun-11-08 07:47 PM by LSparkle
In or out of season, it's become a practically daily
occurrence, and in areas I never thought were prone.

On edit: Can't help but wonder if this (like increased
number of hurricanes) has ANYTHING to do with global
climate change ... ???

A tornado tore through a Scout camp this evening and left behind up to 30 injured people and possible fatalities.

The camp is the Little Sioux Scout Ranch, located between Blencoe and Little Sioux.
Becky Griffis, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Omaha, said the tornado went through at about 6:35 p.m, about 12 minutes after the warning went out.

Griffis said there were reports of up to four fatalities, but those were unconfirmed.

Who was at the camp was not immediately known.

23. internet radio out of Omaha said the Little Sioux Camp has four fatalities,
there is a shelter there; there were alot of people there on leadership conference, etc. Probably couldn't hear tornado sirens.

I'm listening to a rock station, KEZO-FM, Z-92.

A spokeswoman for Iowa Homeland Security said at least four people were killed and 40 injured Wednesday evening when a tornado struck a western Iowa Boy Scout camp.

Julie Tack, a spokeswoman for Iowa Homeland Security, said a search and rescue team had been deployed to the camp, near Little Sioux in Harrison County. She said the camp was covered with debris and downed trees after the tornado hit about 7 p.m.

Tack said there were 93 campers and 25 staff members at the camp when the tornado struck. The campers were between 13 and 18 years old and were attending a leadership training camp.

"They were considered some of the best in the area," Tack said.

At least 40 people who were injured in the storm were being taken to area hospitals.

That might be something parents might want to look into before sending their kids off to camp for a week.
