Let me just reiterate that: I want a big gulp. I don't have any cash right now as I usually just pay with a card (database fodder, I know), but that really doesn't matter. I'm thinking of just walking across the street and taking one. Why not? If I can just walk in there and take a big gulp, who's to say I shouldn't?
In the event that I caught and go to court, what right do they have to convict me? Are they going to tell me it is illegal to steal big gulps? Are they going to tell me it's "wrong?" Why shouldn't they just let me go, tell the owner tough luck, and leave it at that? Are they really going to spend the money to have me locked up in jail? Hell, why are they running the court room and paying all the people there? Why not just let it go?
And if they want to talk about how stealing a big gulp is wrong, hey, I didn't kill anybody. No countries were destroyed. What right do they have to tell me that stealing, no taking, a big gulp is "wrong?" And hey, it's already done, old news, THE PAST! Why bring up this old shit? Let's just move forward into the new era, forget this stuff. I'll pay for the next one, promise. My children - successors - will pay for their big gulps.
Honestly why should I as a citiz- consumer worry about laws? I've watched as so many people have ignored them completely. Granted, those people have more money and power, but I just don't see that as a valid reason for why I, big gulp drinker, should have to follow rules when they don't.
All my life I've believed in doing the "right thing." I've thought about how my actions will affect society big and small, what the implications are. Where's it gotten me? I went to college, work every day, pay my taxes, and for what? Do my taxes help the community or the world? Or am I just Halliburton's b****? Who gets rich off of my work?
Society is an exercise in us all agreeing to live together under rules that restrict our actions to at least some degree for the common good. I would be naive to say we all live by the same rules but there is a medium somewhere. Where that medium lies will always shift, sometimes making things more fair, sometimes not. We all have to fight to keep it somewhere where we can all live. We all have to say that at some point, it's gone too far, it's too much, and we just aren't going to take it quietly, we won't continue to sacrifice for someone else's fight, someone else's war, someone else's profits.
IMPEACH!
