Hymen restoration as "valentine's present" to husband. OMG!

All of a sudden, virginity is important in France,” she said. “I realized that I could be seen like that woman everyone is talking about on television.”

Those who perform the procedure say they are empowering patients by giving them a viable future and preventing them from being abused — or even killed — by their fathers or brothers.

“Who am I to judge?” asked Dr. Marc Abecassis, who restored the Montpellier student’s hymen. “I have colleagues in the United States whose patients do this as a Valentine’s present to their husbands. What I do is different. This is not for amusement. My patients don’t have a choice if they want to find serenity — and husbands.”

1. Personally, I think France should attack the notion that women are inferior.
Just because they come from a North African or Arabic background should not be an excuse to institutionalize inequality.

3. I don't have a wife, but
I really can't imagine that would be high on my lists of requests. I mean if I'm her husband, I would hope that I was well aware that she wasn't a virgin. If you marry someone it should be for what they are anyway. Maybe I'm too idealistic on that front. Whatever, this is just weird.

6. Or the equivalent in beer.
Girls, if you want your man to know you love him, give him a beer.

5. I'm guessing that most men might actually prefer a new lawnmower
If they have been married a while, a "modification" is not likely to interest him for all that long... like ONCE??

Kind of like new shoelaces for old shoes.. they are still old shoes now matter how sparkly the new laces look

8. I'd rather have the money spent on that rediculous operation...
Edited on Thu Jun-12-08 05:52 AM by Jack_DeLeon
so that I could spend it on something useful like ammunition for my guns, or gasoline for my car.

9. Of course, that isn't what this article is really about
But let's not talk about the kind of sick culture that would condemn a woman to abuse or murder because she isn't a virgin. Let's not talk about the fact that such an absurd surgery is anything but a laughing matter to women who are treated as chattel and property because France insists on allowing immigrants to retain their "own culture" - including barbaric things such as honor killings, female mutilation, and "hymen replacements" - rather than vigorously enforcing the law in these communities. No, let's misrepresent this as some silly indulgence of some rich, dumb Americans. Why not post this quote:

In other cases, the woman and her partner decide for her to have the operation. A 26-year-old French woman of Moroccan descent said she lost her virginity four years ago when she fell in love with the man she now plans to marry. But she and her fiancé decided to share the cost of her $3,400 operation in Paris.

She said his conservative extended family in Morocco was requiring that a gynecologist — and family friend — there examine her for proof of virginity before the wedding.

“It doesn’t matter for my fiancé that I am not a virgin — but it would pose a huge problem for his family,” she said. “They know that you can pour blood on the sheets on the wedding night, so I have to have better proof.”

THIS barbaric, regressive, misogynist bullshit is why this "surgery" is so popular.

14. Born again virgins it's like my high school all over again.
A lot of girls I knew became virgins again in their late teens.... There is no surgery involved just a little white lie or two. or 14....

BTW what is it with woman and cosmetic surgery "down there". Unless your in a certain film business I have no idea why one would do this. I have absolutely no idea what man this is supposed to appeal to.

It's like the shoulder pads of the 21st century. Cause you know a guy likes big wide shoulders.

I swear men are out out the loop on most plastic surgeries. Woman going under the knife cause other woman shame them.
