Why I think the idea of impeachment helps Obama.
First of all, I have no expectations that impeachment is actually going to happen, and I never have.

However, this is why I support what DK is doing, and why I don't feel it's a distraction or a negative for Obama.

The very idea of impeachment being out there on the blogs, in the news, helps Democrats. It ties McCain to Bush by the simple fact that there's impeachment talk about a sitting Republican president while a Republican is trying to run for the same office. It's inevitable that the public will tie that together, even if it's only on a subconscious level (and many will do so on a conscious level as well). This only helps us. Even it that help is a small effect, any help is a positive for us, is it not? Death by a thousand cuts, and all that. :)

Also, I strongly doubt that DK minds taking the slings and arrows being directed his way, and I seriously doubt he minds Obama distancing himself from this. This is classic "good cop/bad cop" strategy, and it allows DK to do his thing, keeping a highly negative story about Repubs out there while Obama takes the good cop route. It forces Repubs to defend on multiple fronts, taking time and energy away from defending/supporting McCain.

And finally, for me, doing what's right is important even if there's no noticeable effect, because it's just the right thing to do. But that's a different point for a different thread. ;)

2. I Tend to Agree
that Kucinich's impeachment effort is good for the election -- but only if it does not succeed.

Look at how wonderfully the presidential race is developing since Obama won the nomination. People are hopeful, open-minded, and turning more to Obama every day. A nasty impeachment fight (probably in a losing cause) will leave that in tatters.

3. It doesn't stand a chance of succeeding.
And I think all involved know it. I wouldn't even be totally surprised if there's been talks about this and each player playing it the way they are.

12. It Can Actually Give Fence Sitter a Greater Sense of Comfort About Obama
since he's not supporting the attack dogs. One can only hope that he pursues at least some of these issues after being elected.

14. I'm supporting Obama fully until he's elected.
Then the work of dragging his ass to the left begins. :)

6. We should do that too.
We have the resources to do many things from many angles, and it would be great to keep the pressure on the Repubs from all directions. :)

5. I have some hope ... because all Dem leadership is offering is FEAR and POLITICS . . .
Edited on Thu Jun-12-08 04:27 PM by defendandprotect
as someone else said . . . they aren't offering PRINCIPLES ---

I think there has to be a response --- this is just going to keep coming around like a Carousel ---

Wherever we go we are going to be coming face to face with Bush warprofiteering, lawlessness and theft ---
We will all be paying for it if we are lucky enough to get a Dem into the White House and a larger Dem majority.

If the Democratic Congress is responsible and moral, they will have to move on ALL of these issues to shore up state governments, local governments, small busines opportunities, end the war,
clean up Iraq's Depleted Uranimum/? ---

and, of course, give citizens an opportunity to come out from under this coming iron fist of
corporations over us, running and ruining our lives ---

16. LOL.."It was Abby something."
Marty Feldman was so awesome. And the look on McCain's face is hilarious!

Sorry about the plane thing. I actually had almost used a stealth bomber instead, but went with the B-52 because, like McCain, they're old as sin and still in use.

8. Distancing himself? Obama said Bush didn't commit any acts "rising to the level of impeachment".

11. Yeah . . . THAT was a shocker I'm still trying to figure out --- Wow . . .!!!
What does it take to not see Bush's slaughterhouse of impeachable offenses . . .

I'm presuming what Obama is saying is that he can't acknowledge them --- ????

Otherwise, he's brain damaged and unfit for service . . .
