Budweiser buyout by Becks and other Belgian brewers?
Anheuser-Busch could be bought by a Belgian brewery?
This Bud's for you, indeed!

Major sponsorships would be affected.
Nascar for example.
Every other sport, stadium and entertainment venue.
What about the Bud Light girls?

Flag waving, swill drinking, right wingers up in arms.
It downright un-american!

This could be very funny indeed.
American Icon on one hand.
Tons and Tons of cash for the stockholders that may be too sweet to pass up.

This is gonna be good.

What are they going to do about the original Budwieser?

http://www.dw-world.de/dw/article/0,1564,1588022,00.html

It was funny when I went on a tour of the local Bud brewery a couple years ago and the girl tried to claim that the American version was the original.

At least the Czech Budwieser tastes like real beer.

7. Obviously, it is lovingly stored in a handmade Beechwood Barrels

until such time as the master chef feels it is properly seasoned with hints of the flavorful tree.

Then the barrels are drawn on a beautifully decorated carriage to classic bottling ceremony, by a sturdy team of fine champion Clydesdales. All the while the Gospel of Jesus Christ is being hummed by the landscape;

"Here comes the King,
Here comes the Big Number One"

8. Oh, they would like you to think so.
Oh yes they would, but the answer is more...shall we say..."accountant-friendly". Not to mention kinda funny, when you think about it.

19. Ok. Here is "Beechwood Aging" in a nutshell:
They take rough-hewn slats of Beech lumber and attach them together with stainless steel wire, just like snow fencing. Then they attach the rolls of "fencing" to huge armatures that "stir and swish" these rolls around in great stainless steel vats of very cold beer. Voila. "Beechwood Aging".

Kinda like making tea. ;-)

21. didn't know about stirring and swishing
I thought they just left the beechwood chips sit in the vats for a couple of days.

22. I had a housemate...
Who was a Electrician's Union "Traveler" who came up to work on a big job at the Newark NJ A-B plant. He was from Texas and all he drank was shots of Tequila Anejo and knocked them back with Bud. That's it. He paid close attention when he was working there, in The Vatican of his Beer Drinking. ;-)

18. OMG I always knew that the "beechwood aged" was crap
But you made me go and google up the real truth of the matter. I'll leave it to you to expose, but wow. That's some rather misleading marketing.

9. Of course, Bud stole its name from the Czech company of the same name
so its hardly an American icon.

(The Czech bud is spelled differently, named for the town it is brewed in, Bud apparently bought the name with the agreement the Czech beer of the same/similar name will never be sold in the US. If you're ever outside the US, drink a Budvar which is the nick name for the Czech Budweiser. It's MUCH better than our Bud.)

And he likes Michelob.
Probably, Michelob light no doubt.

The company doing the buying?
IMBEV.

I love that.

Here comes the number 8 IMBEV car into the corner!

TONIGHT Lakers and New Jersey Nets from the IMBEV arena in Brooklyn, New York.

IMBEV and the Budweiser Clydesdale's at Christmas.

This BUDS for you!

12. Ohhh Noes! McCain's wealth will come from European beers!
How will he ever be able to face his red blooded Repub brethren when his wife's wealth comes from distributing elite European beers. This is why he said he would veto beers. It wasn't a slip. He was just preparing for the takeover of Budweiser.

15. Foreign interests are buying out the US again because we're cheaper
now. Our dollar is suffering under the tremendous and expanding debt. One economist on CNN said American workers can expect to have to work for foreign interests. When those foreign interest buy our real estate up, the workers will be nothing more than tenants.

This really isn't a good sign of things to come.

20. As I sit and sip my Pyramid IPA...
:toast:

The Bud reps here were practically giving the stuff away last Christmas. One guy saw my husband and his friend going up to the register with 12's of the competition and basically bought them each a case of Bud brands- In hubby's case, some Michelob 'varietal', it was the only one of their brews we had any hope of consuming. Couldn't get past a couple. We gave them away to people over the holidays.

I suspect beer tastes are getting too sophisticated to continue to support the bland, watery brews that many of us grew up on. Bud is probably losing money.

We can only hope the new owners improve the brand.

I never drank it much. It was guaranteed to give me a headache within the first couple of beers.
