Our city manager just declared a state of emergency....
50-75% of our roads are flooded, 5,000+ people without power and another freaking thunderstorm just started? Since I live in a split level and the water is only 1 inch below my living room windows! :scared:

WTF is up with the weather???

10. We're all upstairs and I have to keep the laptop up and going
because the cable went out, no weather updates without the net. It's safe if it's wireless, right?

16. If you mean "wireless" like a cell modem
but what will you do when the laptop batteries go down
Is the Grid Power still on?

If it's up to your windows
How are you keeping it out of the doors?

Seems to me if water is that high
you can't leave anyway
unless you have a boat
(One of the reasons I live in a boat)

Good Luck!

Try to keep dry

22. Split level home means that half of our bottom floor is
semi-underground. The door is up a flight of stairs. Our part of town still has power, no cable, but at least we have electricity, so when I say the water is almost up to my living room window, on a normal house it would be no big deal, but my living room window is only 6 inches off the ground. I'm sorry if the description was confusing...

31. get out of Cedar Rapids - river to be 13 ft. above historical flood levels - please
get out of that city while you still can. I just heard Dr. Forbes on Weather Channel say that he's never seen anything like it and he was really taken aback, you could tell. '93 level of river was 20 ft - major flood then.
Tomorrow, that river will crest at 33 ft! 13 ft above major flood level.

Please go while you can get out and report back if you can.

For that matter, half the counties in Ia. are declared a state of disaster.
Hope you can report back.

Move your food and water upstairs (batteries, extra linen), and any tools you have in case you need to break through the roof. Do you have any life preservers? Anything inflatable?

I hope you will be ok.

26. picture....
It wouldn't be so bad, but all of our storm drains flow into the lake, which is now too high to take the influx. The people on the other side of town have it worse, my MIL said that thier manhole covers are coming up? Never heard of that before. Of course, our situation in my city pales in comparasine to many other places hit by severe weather lately, but for us, this is new and scary...

40. Wunderground also has an excellent "warning" page
so you can see the warnings for Wisconson as they come in. Iowa has flooding AND tornadoes too. I think that Iowa's flooding will be their worst in history from the sound of it. Still sending you Protection Angels!

To the right of this Severe weather page, there's all the states listed and you can click on them, your county to see the warnings.

http://www.wunderground.com/severe.asp

Also, Dr. Master's blog on Wunderground has professional mets there posting warnings too:

So we escaped most of the deluge. Over 50% of households weren't as lucky, many suffering extensive water damage and businesses across the river are still shut down today. I cannot imagine how the people in Iowa are coping, we had no loss of life and comparatively little damage in our area, my heart goes out to our neighbors to the south
