Are you all OK in KC? I have not heard any reports but wanted to check. Greenbriar is also in the basement. I am out of the basement for now. Please let us know when you get out how you are.

KC DUers, this is a very nasty line of storms. Please check in and let us know how you are.

2. I was out of the basement a while ago, but
that was to chain the trashcans down.
The hail was exciting.
I think it is better now, here in KCKS.

They wrapped before it came through. But now they're downtown shooting in the storm.

6. I think we might be done for the night...or close anyway
Here in the Cedar Rapids area we are on the edge and I think it is finally ready to leave. Of course I have thought that more than once the last couple of hours......
It appears a tremendous amount of moisture is heading north.....toward Wisconsin.

I hate to say this but it appears you guys are in the pattern we were for the weeks leading up to the massive floods...I certainly hope not.

You have had some nasty hurricanes in Jamaica lately so don't feel sorry for us! I have been in a hurricane but only the front edge before we caught a flight. It was not fun.

Thanks for feeling sorry for us, we will return the favor if you get hit again. I hope it does not happen. Fingers crossed.

we had our tornadoes last night. Seems like all the Midwest and eastern Plains are just getting walloped this year, more than usual. Good luck!

16. Yes you did get it last night.
Kansas did too but it was West of me, West of most of us who post here. KSU was really messed up in Manhattan. It is so sad because it was such a beautiful campus with all the old buildings and huge trees. The trees are mangled and the buildings blown apart in some cases.

Maybe tomorrow it will go even farther to the East or maybe it will just stop so nobody else has to deal with it.

Yes we are getting walloped. The winter was not an easy one either. Gotta love the midwest.

:hi: Northern neighbor! Thanks for sending the quiet weather tomorrow.

18. Never went down there
It's too wet. We have had so much rain our sump pump is overwhelmed. So I am in my living room listening to the lightning and thunder. Kid is in the basement in the studio banging on the drums and DH is in bed sound asleep.

Just another spring evening for this typical Kansas family.

23. LOL
We were on top of the house taking pictures, it was impressive, until we realized it was headed straight for us. By the time we got in the basement it was on top of us. Scary sounding. Thankfully it only went over us, it roared rather than the train sound that is so often heard with tornadoes on the ground. Lots and lots of funnel clouds.

Be watchful and safe. We are done here.

Glad to hear from you.

28. It seems we get a thunderstorm with hail
almost every single night now.

I am in Lawrence, so we get the storms as they move east from Topeka or west from KC. Wee lost electricity for a while, but when it came back on, I was able to watch TV video of tornadoes forming and very briefly touching down in KC and elsewhere--including just on the outskirts of Lawrence and near De Soto.

This has been a hell of a storm season already, and it is just the middle of June!

32. Hey Breeze!
Edited on Fri Jun-13-08 09:17 AM by MuseRider
Both Proud and GB posted above and last I heard both were fine.

It came right over my house. We could hear it. Nasty things they are. A couple of trees hit by lightning I think but I could not get out there because the pasture was running like a river. Some big tree branches down, little ones everywhere and the tops of a strip of them look like they had haircuts. Other than that as far as I know things are fine. I may have some surprises as I coast around looking but nothing bad I am certain.

Thanks for asking. There are some pictures on another thread, I think about a tornado in Topeka that Proud posted last night.

Edit to add photos so you don't have to search

36. They have? The news? Kansas storms?
Well, this is a particularly busy storm year but news outside of Kansas? Huh. If it is not some really stupid creationist bullshit or Fred Phelps I can't imagine Kansas in the news anywhere else. (hey, that is one of the reasons I love it here. Nobody thinks it is fit to live in so we just stretch out and breath mostly clean air)

Yes, that came directly over. Turns out there was a spotter watching it. We are in the house that we built on the farm, have been in it for 9 months after waiting and saving for countless years to get out here. All we could think of was why not the old house that we can't sell? It was loud but thankfully above the ground.

33. Don't have a basement...
I've got a crawl space that I can get into through the garage, but I always scrape and bang-up my knees and shins when I crawl through the little entryway, so it would have to be storming pretty hard for me to seek cover.

It must not have been that bad where you are then if you did not go. I never go into our basement unless it is night and I can't see or it is looking very bad and close like last night.

Now I must worry about you when it storms.

39. Hey Solly!
I thought of you Wednesday night when they thought Ft. Riley was hit. (I really think of you much more often for other reasons but particularly Wed night) I think even Junction City was OK although they were saying there was damage. Did you see what happened to Manhattan? An F4 and it hit campus. It is a mess. Lots of pictures on WIBW website if you are interested. Sad to see, so many old trees and buildings.
