Doing well here. My father {if you recall from the pm} was moved in the middle of the night due to Mercy evacuating ... so it's been a long one, not much sleep. Still, many, many others have it FAr worse than us.

7. Good to hear that you are safe and your dad was

evaucated as well. I watched some footage of Indian Creek flooding on Ch. 9 last night. That water came up fast.

We're cut off in two directions by low areas in the roads with significant flooding of a couple of major creeks. My husband took the scenic route to work in IC today. Coralville is a mess again.

I heard last night that the UI was bringing in some big containers to fill with rocks or cement to deal with the record crest and that this would be quicker than sandbagging some of the area along the river.

Those people without water or electricity are many. I think that some of the homes may be permanently lost as well. A lot of jobs have washed away in the flood waters,too.

It looks as if we will stay dry today, but I see we have chances of storms in the forecast over the next few days.

10. Yeah, I don't foresee downtown recovering anytime soon

There were ongoing efforts to revive it over the yrs, and now, well it's just ka-put, gone. Good the thing the Read Books guy {and his cats!:P } had long moved away from 2nd St. If you're unfamiliar, he had a MASSIVE collection that he moved from the "ghetto" 1st Ave location, to the downtown area. I used to spend a lot of time there.

4. Surviving

I think I might be stuck home today. Most highways are closed around CR....I think I-380 is still open and I cant even imagine the traffic. Is I-380 still open south to Iowa City? I heard they closed 965 over the reservoir last night.

We are barely over 31 feet as a crest suppose to hit 31.8 in a few hours. I keep seeing people saying we hit 29 feet in 93....this is not true. Check these historic crests and maybe people will understand what is going on here alittle better.

6. My sister, from NY to Chicago, to here, spent 2 hrs from the CR airport to Marion

11. I went that way yesterday

I was trying to get back home with supplies to clean our basement from all the water. The radio said I-380 was closed....so I took 30 to 13 and up through Marion. Ir was horrible.
I know the back roads in that area.....So I tried to get around it. I kept hitting road closed signs. I finally made it around...should have stayed with the traffic. I understand her pain!!!

9. Good morning, Bellator.

I was thinking about you during the night as I was up and down with some of that lightning. I had to log off yesterday evening because I didn't want to chance getting my computer fried. We are on a rural electrical coop and sometimes storms zap the system.

5. not currently living in Iowa, but a Des Moines native

Des Moines itself is doing OK. The 1993 floods made the city, and the rest of the state, better prepared. In many areas of the state, the cresting is worse than in 1993, which was billed as the 100 year flood. So all things considered, the state is doing OK.

Called my mother in Des Moines last night, and she's doing fine...

8. I remember going to Adventureland {Altuna} during the 93 floods

The park was errie...like a ghost town. We even went on a Sat.

12. I'm very fortunate to be living in a relatively safe spot - North Liberty

I didn't even think about trying to make it to work today, as I have to drive east across the Cedar River to get to Muscatine. With I-80 closed at the Cedar River, my guess is that the bridges downstream couldn't possibly be open either.

One co-worker who lives just on the west side of the Cedar couldn't get across the bridge on Hwy. 6, and I normally cross it on Hwy. 22. That water was dangerously close to the bridge yesterday, and I didn't want to be forced to take the insane detour if I got stuck on the wrong side...
