The More Conservative the Govt - the more deviant the behavior?
I'm just wondering.

Is it just me or are we seeing a lot more deviant sexual behavior? Seems like there is a lot more child porn activity and more just plain disgusting stuff going on.

I live in the Bible belt and it seems like the more conservative the society the more likely you are to have some really far out sexual stuff.

I don't think its all just because more people are getting found out.

1. I've often thought that the combination of abstience education + the availability of porn on
the internet must make for some odd sexual attitudes and behaviors.

DISCLAIMER: I am against the first and am NOT saying the 2nd is necessarily bad.

4. I've heard that studies confirm this. Social conservatism is a result of repression
and repression leads to deviant sexual behavior. People who are taught that "bodies are bad" and "sex is dirty" tend to grow up with rather twisted notions about sexuality.

I've heard that the conventional wisdom that "Democrats have sex scandals and Republicans have money scandals" is exactly the reverse in truth. Most sex scandals involve Republicans. Bill was an obvious exception, but I'd argue that that wasn't really a "sex scandal" and it certainly wasn't deviant.

5. Oh, I don't know...
I guess penetrating women less than half your age with cigars isn't considered deviant.

I guess.

7. Not when its consensual, I don't consider that deviant. She was not a minor.
Don't get me wrong. I think it was morally reprehensible for a man in his position to have sexual relations with someone so far beneath him in power, but I don't consider it deviant.

8. Of course, repression breeds obsession which breeds transgression
That, and all the power without accountability for the elite who are in control. This repeats itself throughout history. For instances, a lot of the Nazis were into some really sick stuff. Big surprise there.

10. Expression vs. Suppression...
when people need to suppress their emotions, and are shamed for what they feel, all kinds of nasty behaviors result. I'm a firm believer in what goes in, is what comes out.

11. there is more divorce in the "religious" south than in, say, Mass.
and, iirc, the rate of out-of-wedlock children is higher in the "religious" south.

in addition, the southern red states that rail against taxes, etc. etc. do not produce federal revenue... they are takers or users.. the money they pay to the federal govt is less than the money they receive.

again, that ultra-liberal Mass. gives more money to the Federal govt. than it uses.

it just goes on and on.

the hypocrisy is stunning, really. it just makes you want to slap the shit out of southern conservatives. or at least I like to imagine it.

12. The Victorian Age was riddled with perversion
to coin a phrase. The more repressive the social mores, the more outrageous the reaction.

13. The projection they engage in should be a cause for alarm in all sane people.
The jump from "gay marriage" to bestiality in a single leap was an awesome feat. Hell, the fact they're so obsessed with "Teh Gays", child sex/pornography, the Clenis, female teen sexuality, prostitution, abstinence programs.... It's not limited to even the most rigid definition of perversion, but ALL sex.

Anyone who spends so much time obsessing over other people's sexual behavior isn't a mentally healthy individual and the snippets of their sex-lives we've seen in recent scandals are only the tip of that iceberg.
