Repug talking points I keep hearing.
1. "The Chinese can drill for oil off the coast of Florida but we can't."
2. "We have enough oil in this country to be self sufficient if only the liberals would let us drill."(They mention some vast oilfield recently discovered in North Dakota.)
3. "ANWR is completely off limits to drilling."
4. Repugs business owners I know seem to think that everyone in this country has money, they're just afraid to spend it right now because the bush-hating liberal media only tells us bad news and that's why the economy is bad.

All loyal Hannity/Limbo listeners, I imagine.

The head war criminal liar.

edit: By the way, it doesn't matter if Chee-nee's office says he was mistaken. The dittoheads will repeat this as fact.

5. Be wary of any assertion that boils down to: "Oil companies just can't catch a break."
Response to Myth #1.

7. *It's all Clinton's fault* or *We have a Dem controlled Congress*

Just as if we have been in a time warp for the past eight years.

They never change. They are all delusional revisionists at heart.

10. Somebody posted a few days ago that there are at least 40 oil leases
that the oil companies own where they haven't drilled a thing. Congress is apparently getting ready to put some kind of bill through that will make them either pay extra if they don't start exploring soon. I think they will lose the lease if they don't drill soon. So the answer to #3 is that they aren't using the oil leases they have now.

"The Chinese can drill for oil off the coast of Florida but we can't."
The Chinese can't, and don't have the technology to go as deep as would be required in those spots in the Caribbean even if they could. We don't either. That's why no one is currently drilling in a lot of those spots. With the tech we have right now, it would cost 20 billion dollars to research and develop a means to get that deep to pull 5 billion dollars of oil that's actually there.

"We have enough oil in this country to be self sufficient if only the liberals would let us drill."(They mention some vast oilfield recently discovered in North Dakota.)
If "recently discovered" means the 1960's. That oil locked shale is a nightmare to process, and again, we have that problem of "spending a hundred billion dollars to get 10 billion worth of oil, with the current tech that we have" thing. Not to mention the entire state will basically need to be strip mined to get the oil out of the shale. As for self sufficient, blah blah blah...if we could magically build the pipelines, and processing plants overnight instead of in the 20 years that it would take us to tap in ANWR, it would only bring down the price of oil a few cents per barrel.

"ANWR is completely off limits to drilling."
See above

"Repugs business owners I know seem to think that everyone in this country has money, they're just afraid to spend it right now because the bush-hating liberal media only tells us bad news and that's why the economy is bad."
Are we still at war in Iraq? I can't tell because I haven't heard any of the mainstream media talk about that in about 2 years now.

Another one I hear all the time is "OMGOMGOMG!!!!111!!1 CHAVEZ IS GONNA SELL ALL OF OUR OIL TO THE CHINESE!!!111! HE'S A VISIOUS HORRIBLR DICTATOR!!!11!" completely disregarding that China doesn't have the tech capacity to process out the tons of sulfur that Venezuelan oil is saturated with. The US can process it out easily. That's why they sell it to us. We are basically the only market they can sell it to.
