GOP Despair: Party Writing Off Two Key Senate Seats

Wow, this one really spells trouble for the GOP this fall -- the guy in charge of the party's Senate races just basically wrote off the Republicans' chances in two of their five open seats.

At yesterday's Christian Science Monitor forum -- the same venue where he upgraded the GOP's goal to a potential three-seat loss -- NRSC chairman John Ensign was asked point-blank if the party was giving up on the open seats they currently hold in Virginia and New Mexico, where the Democratic nominees are way ahead of the Republicans in current polling.

Ensign said bluntly: "You don't waste money on races that don't need it or you can't win."

5. Neither would I.
I didn't mean to be conservative about this. I think we'll make huge gains in the Senate in November.

And...when Obama is elected, his Senate seat will stay Democratic. It's all good. :-)

11. Hope we can have a supermajority to write constitutional ammendments uncontested too!
And then if the DLC tries to stand in the way, then THEY will be the bad guys and be targets in the coming elections!

We need some constitutional ammendments to:

1) Clarify a woman's right to choose (so that Roe v. Wade becomes a moot issue for the Supreme Court)
2) Get rid of corporate personhood and better define their "free speech".
3) Put in place the underpinnings for public campaign financed elections.
4) restore habeus corpus and define impeachable offenses when the executive tries to work around this as well as the FISA Court.
5) restore Posse Comatatus
6) Define requirements to keep elections from getting "privatized" and vulnerable to election fraud.
7) Rules against torture.
8) Rules against privatizing our military.
9) Update the tax code to restore some of the top marginal tax rates to that of the pre-Reagan era, if not on a permanent basis, at least conditionally put them in place as long as the country is in a "state of war", to force the elites to WANT to stop the war profiteering where they are empowered to do so in order for them to lower their taxes.
10) Back out of NAFTA, CAFTA, GATT, etc. and renegotiate these treaties to be "FAIR" trade instead of free trade.
11) Decriminalize drug possession and start ramping down the "for profit" prison system.

9. It's good money Sununu (R-NH) is going down.
Sheehan is popular (10 points ahead right now) and after the 06 massacre NH Dems have the bone in their teeth. The Repugs probably aren't going to spend any money on Su either. So that's at least three sure seats.

13. I'm guessing that Gordon Smith (R-OR) is also going down too...
He's trying to sound more "moderate" now, but I think the increasingly left state of Oregon has had enough with folks like him!
