2. Wow, more unbelievable news from CR...
So, the entire stretch of I 380--between CR and IC will be closed?

That's about 30 miles of Interstate.

Did you see the footage of the railroad bridge? There are 20-30 houses that floated down the
river and are jammed together in front of the bridge. It's surreal to see those pictures.
Houses...blocked in front of a bridge that is barely visible in the water!

Stay safe Cedar Rapidians.

3. Hi, TS.
They were notifying people that need to return to CR or to IC to do so by 4 pm because the road will be closed by then, maybe sooner. They expect water to come across that road at the causeway. Presently, I380 is the only bridge by which people can enter CR. So many roads are closed in so many counties it is like living on island.

How are you holding up over that way?

4. Hi Skidmore...
I can imagine that it does feel like living on an island.

During the Floods of '93, I lived in Ames and all major roads in
and out of the city were closed. It was a very strange feeling.
So, I do understand. Cedar Rapids is so big and sprawling and
I imagine that feeling of things being 'shut down' is all that
more ominous.

Are you doing ok? Is your area affected?

We're doing ok here. Des Moines is getting worse, because the flood
waters are rising rapidly now. The crest is supposed to happen late
tonight and early Sat morning. More street closures.

We live just 2 miles from Saylorville. They are closing many streets
around Saylorville, but we are doing to be ok. Downtown has been
hit extremely hard. After 93, Des Moines built levies in the downtown
area, to prevent another '93. It's helping, but the waters are supposed
to top the levies during this crest tonight. It's unbelievable.

I suppose CR will do many of the same things that DSM did after '93.

Keep us posted on how you are doing. I hope you are staying dry and
that all of your family and friends are safe.

5. The Cedar Rapids airport is also off of 380... Is it closed in that section too?

6. I don't know. That exit is north of where the highway is closed so
I would imagine it could be accessed from CR, but it would be difficult.

7. I went over Boyson exit
The south bound traffic on I-380 was backed up as far as I could see north of the Boyson exit...
I feel for those people....they said the detour would be 281 miles versus the 30 minute drive now.
