Taliban PRISON BREAK In Khandahar, Afghanistan!!!
Edited on Fri Jun-13-08 02:35 PM by BlooInBloo
Heard on tv - link coming!

Suicide bomber blew open the front gate, and 1000 Taliban prisoners fled!

EDIT: Linky: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2008/06/13/afghanistan-prison.html

"Militants have attacked the main prison in the southern Afghan city of Kandahar with a car bomb and rockets, killing an unspecified number of police officers and setting prisoners free, Afghan officials said Friday.

A car bombing outside the prison's gate happened around 10 p.m. local time and killed all police officers in the vicinity, several sources said.

There were no immediate details on how many prisoners might have escaped from the Sarposa prison, said Justice Minister Sarwar Danish.

The prison, the largest detention facility in Kandahar province, housed both common criminals and captured Taliban militants who had been fighting NATO troops and the Afghan government."

4. I'm thinking more about how wonderful an idea it was to not focus on Afghanistan...
and instead send 90% of available forces into irrelevant-Iraq.

11. I think its high time
We started focusing on Afghanistan, since that does seem to be the hotbed of the islamic terrorists. The part that really sucks though is that whenever we leave Iraq, all hell is going to break loose there. Whether it was a year from now or 10 years from now, whatever president ends up finally ending the war there is going to be stuck dealing with the consequences of 'losing the war'.

25. Thanks!
And yes, despite the surge, things are going to get worse there. In a region of the world that's always been run by strong man governments, its almost impossible to get a different type of rule.

Like those pallets of cash that were "lost."

18. It isn't really on the evening news, and nobody in the WH gives a shit about Afghanistan anyway.
Why would they want to draw attention to the forgotten bastard stepchild of the War on Terror? Obama's claiming we need to focus more on Afghanistan; McCain is saying Iraq is paramount. This helps Obama's case, not McCain's.

20. Then why is Bushco pushing for attacks on the Afgan/Pakistani Border?
And why are they letting the poppy situation get out of hand?

I think we like to be "needed."

23. Because that is where Al-Qaeda and the Taliban have their main base of operations.

The poppy situation is unresolvable without increased security throughout the entire country. It isn't a matter of "letting."
