49. World's largest block party...
A planetary festival unprecedented in recorded history. Any tears shed would be tears of joy. The intertubes would stream everything live from all the major cities on every continent.

Even the penguins would party down on whatever's left of the Antarctic ice. Polar bears would be exchanging high-fives and fist bumps and chest thumps on icebergs all across the brand new shipping channels of the Arctic Ocean.

In less developed countries, the word would go out by word of mouth, drummers would pound it out, even smoke signals might make a comeback. Modern Paul Reveres would ride like the wind from village to town to wide spot in the road proclaiming the news of the world-wide reprieve.

Iranians, who probably have the most to lose by his continued existence and the most riding on his immediate departure, would break all religious proscriptions against promiscuity, debauchery and public drunkenness. Hashish consumption would break all previous records.

The only somber voices would be those of the hypocrite blowhards on US TV news, and even some of them couldn't keep straight faces for their entire time on camera. Ms. Perino, neo-ditz and archetype of vapid republican female obliviousness, would read a prepared statement citing his long and noble record of public service.

When a quarter or half ends on stupor bowl sunday, urban legend has it that water pressure goes way down in just about all population centers because hundreds of thousands of toilets are flushing all that second-hand Bud lite swill into the sewer system.

It's likely that about two paragraphs into Ms. Perino's recitation, the same phenomenon would occur, but for a different reason.

Tens of millions would piss themselves because they had reached a state of gaga giddiness that prevented control of their bladders. Millions more would be laughing so hard that their gag reflexes kicked in and they actually puked in ecstasy. And the remaining hundreds of millions would be busy flushing their new RFID chips from passports, cell phones and other common items the fascist bastard has commandeered as surveillance devices and GPS-compliant locators.

I think that about covers it, except for the millions of church bells ringing out the uninhibited joy of the earth's entire population from every corner of the planet.

Oh, and my cats would probably nab a small defenseless rodent in celebration.

Now if only the Giants would start driving in some runs...

55. We will be observing history being made
The death of a sitting Vice President is quite rare. I suspect that there will be quite a bit of pomp and circumstance associated with his passing, total news coverage 24-7 and etc.

Here in the DU we would quickly move past the "lets not be morbidly gleeful stage" to the 'WTF' outrage stage when we realize that MSM used this 'event' as a way to block out any important news, scandals, or shocking horrors coming out of the bush-administration. Another-words, Vice President Cheney's passing would be a giant media smoke screen...sorta like a diapered astro-'nut', a pantiless star exiting her car and Paula Abdul-Simon Cowell having a brouhaha all rolled into one yet for an entire week! The size of this week-long 'Friday Afternoon News Dump' will be staggering!

For me the biggest problem with his passing is that we will never get to see what he was truly made of...it's not like the government will slip up and allow another alien autopsy to get out and be posted on youtube again like this one was:

Russert was part of the mainstream media and to some degree he and it are responsible for the war in Iraq by not questioning the motives enough but he was not a bad guy.

Cheney IS a bad guy. Very bad, evil, I'd say so I'd be overjoyed if he croaked.

64. I'd be very disappointed.
I still have the slimmest, almost non-existent hope that man will be punished for what he's done. Then he can go die, and the world will be a better place.

Better that he'd never been born. It's very likely many, many, thousands of people would still be alive if that creature had never come into being.

I'm not religious, but I do believe in forgiveness of ANY sin, no matter what, if the sinner is FULLY cognizant of what they've done and TRULY repentant. I chose those words carefully. I'm not talking about some kind of perfunctory apology here. In any case, I'm not expecting anything like that from Cheney. I'm just hoping that somehow, before that fucker dies, he reaps at least a little of what he's sown.

We are having conversations on a message board for Democrats. The family is not here. They're not checking in to see what DU is saying. So, the conversation is about what DUers have on their minds.

If Dick Cheney dropped dead today, my first thought would be "they're cleaning up the crimes they've committed," followed by "I wonder if the plan is to name McCain VP."

71. Just to clarify
Is that "Tim Russert" kind of dead or "Ken Lay" kind of dead?

74. You wouldn't get a SINGLE RIP outta me.
Tim Russert, I can see. While not a fan, the way he died was tragic and sad.

People like Spidery Sleazoid Dick Cheney deserve NO compassion, sympathy or mourning. I'd ignore every "be better than that" post and gyrate a giant middle finger in the air for his memory.

FUCK Dick Cheney. The sooner this useless oxygen thief dies, the better. The stench of war, poverty and fearmongering will forever hang over his hole. No use for heartless bastards on this earth.

76. It does piss me off that Cheney is still walking around
and Tim Russert is dead.

Of course, what do you expect from an android? If you opened the panel on Cheney's back, you'd find transistors, resistors, and diodes.

80. I would hate it if he dropped dead.
Now, if he got MRSA on the top of his head and was eaten away slowly that would be different.

83. It wouldn't be a shock
because he has so many heart problems. It's almost more surprising that he is still above the ground. I couldn't feel sorry for him because he is partly responsible for the deaths of thousands.

We all know that he's already "died" several times and is the culmination of YEARS of corpse re-animation research.

Why do you think Abe Vigoda is still with us?

But if they announced his death I assume we'd all be quite happy. He really is a piece of shit who has destroyed millions of lives.

out in the open for all to see. I don't want anyone excusing his crimes because he isn't around to defend himself.
