Where's Tweety ??
I've been watching MSNBC and have seen all the corespondents except Matthews. Could it be he's completely overcome w/ grief ? Or maybe he's practicing to beg for Russerts job. :evilfrown:

1. interesting question....
It's pretty well known that Russert didn't care for Tweety, and I'm finding it interesting too that he's nowhere to be seen on the MSNBC coverage.

8. It is Friday - perhaps he was taking the day off

BTW, from what I was reading I had the impression Russert wasn't too thrilled with KO either. And one gets the feeling there is mutual loathing between KO and Tweety. I think Russert thought MSNBC was degrading the news brand of NBC or he was getting a lot of complaints from the pols and the brass even though they loved the increased ratings of KO's Countdown and Hardball.

I was impressed that Brokaw was there to report the story since Brian Williams was in Afghanistan.

9. Maybe on vacation? Lots of these people put in horrendous amounts of overtime
during the extended primary, and since it's Friday, Matthews may have gone away early for a vacation.. He may be on a plane going somewhere, and be unable to comment.

18. Well, they (NBC) seems to have found everbody in the news biz
whether or not they worked for GE. I mean, they even dug up Barbara Walters.

No, there's something else going on. Matthews is too much of a camera hog to not be front and center on something this big. I also noticed they never segued into the early edition of Hardball, Mitchell just kept talking.

12. My sense is that he is too broken up to appear on camera
That NY Times profile showed how much Tweety revered Russert, even if Russert didn't necessarily return that affection. I'm thinking it's especially hard for him right now.

13. Could be - Tweety is very emotional
Though I'm betting he may just be off today and unavailable. Perhaps if he can get to a studio he'll appear later. As I said earlier I'm very impressed that Brokaw was available to do the announcement since Brian Williams if off in Afghanistan.

I'm always impressed how the pros like Brokaw, Rather, and the other great anchors find a way to get to the studio for the big breaking stories.

16. I agree with you...
Edited on Fri Jun-13-08 05:13 PM by TwoSparkles
That NYTimes article clearly spelled out that Tweety thinks of Russert as a hero, and he
looks up to him. Tweety is very emotional, and he's got a very big heart. That article
gave me the impression that there was an echelon at NBC News, and Tweety never penetrated
the circle--of which Russert was the leader.

Tweety isn't really a stalwart like Russert or Brokaw. He's very animated and insecure. I think
this leaves him on the outside a bit---but still very talented and professional, in his own right.

I've said this before and I've been lambasted for it--I adore Tweety. I think he's one of the best.
He's very down-to-earth and I like this haphazard, unpolished performance. I don't always agree with
him. However, I really like him.

I bet this hit him very, very hard.

Death of Tim Russert: Matthews in Europe

For those watching Keith Olbermann's coverage on MSNBC, and who have written to TVNewser inquiring about Chris Matthews, the network tells us he is on vacation in Paris and expected to deliver a statement soon. I snapped the picture below in April, at Tammy Haddad's garden party. Tim and his wife Maureen Orth (far left) were heading out, as Chris Matthews and his wife Kathleen (far right) were arriving.
