What will happen to Colin Powell from here on?
Lets just say he became part of a Obama administration...

But a seasoned Powell who learned from his mistakes (IRAQ! IRAQ!)

Throughout history there have been redemptions (Chief Just Earl Warren comes to mind. Check out his history before he became Chief Justice.)

1. Only after he tells the world everything he knows about Bush
Until then, he hasn't redeemed himself, imho.

2. A lot of skeletons in that closet
Some go back to the Regan administration, some all the way back to Viet Nam.

He is a sycophant.

4. Yep - true that
He has done evil deeds for quite awhile.

So did Gen Smedley Butler, until he was pushed over the edge.

Then - he wrote War is a Racket and turned evidence to stop the coup.

3. In general I've noticed
there's not an ounce of forgiveness for anyone here on DU.

Ida thunk his experience would be useful to a new administration.

5. There are others with the same usefulness - we have a whole string

7. I'm willing to forgive. Just not to forget.
Screw the "keep your enemies closer" tactic. The old buzzard just has no credibility left. He pissed it all away in one speech to the U.N. Security Council. One speech. That's all it took. The only politician who was able to destroy himself with fewer words was Richard Nixon, with his "I am not a crook."

Isn't there a Volvo somewhere that needs restoration? Obama would be well-advised to give Powell the cold shoulder.

11. Exactly
His credibility is gone after the UN speech.

Who would believe him as part of administration policy?

Obama keep him at arms length. Very long arms length.

9. How could anyone trust him after his performance
at the UN where he produced his famous vial of white powder and his graphic renderings... I will not ever trust him and wonder why one would even speculate that Obama would either....

I understand why people want to like him. But when you really run down all the sh!t he's been involved in, I don't see how it's possible.

You can't trust anyone who could lie with such a straight face, ever... His actions have caused the death and destruction of many.. How he even sleeps at night is a wonder to me....

15. He has a career of lying and cover ups from Vietnam to Iraq.
Let Powell atone for his sins far away from the White House.

And let's not forget Michael Powell's role in shredding an independent and free press when he pushed media consolidation to a new and shameful dimension.

Scientists revealed today that Colin Powell's future fits inside the same vial he held aloft at the United Nations Security Council in 2003.

28. I met him in Somalia.
When I shook his hand, it felt soft, like he hadn't done any real work for a long time.

It was nice of him to visit us but I have a very low opinion of him.

30. Colon will make $Millions with speeches & a book or two.
Will he be part of Pres. Obama's Cabinet? I seriously doubt it.

Powell still says invading Iraq was the right thing to do.
