PLEASE tell me he has a dog. I can't vote for someone who doesn't have a dog! The more dogs the better.

21. My Cat Drools Too
she does it when I am petting her sometimes, she starts purring very loudly and then she'll start licking me.

Cats are much lower maintenance than dogs

That would really be a great thing for animal shelters, having the first family adopt a dog whose future is in doubt. Maybe it would influence others to do the same?

10. saw a wonderful interview with Obama where he said
that he and Michelle promised the girls that they could have a dog after the election.

As much as I would have ordinarily wanted to have them get thier wish asap, I'm happy they have had to wait. :)

I think the fact that he wanted them to be a bit more settled before welcoming a dog into their lives speaks to his forethought and empathy.

peace~

There was a story in my local paper and they matched what kind of rescue dogs they thought would be good for the Obama family. One really caught my eye and if I could add a second doggie, I'd go investigate the cute doggie.

33. Rescue dogs are vetted by canine experts
and it's not unusual for the pounds to call in rescue folks to do the same for some of their animals. Rescue also deals with dogs on a one on one, allowing for better socialization through the fostering and adoption procedure. Rescue ALSO generally sets up an agreement to take the dog back if a problem arises, something that the pound cannot possibly manage.

Not the same thing at all.

38. But they ARE both "unwanted".
Just more reason to adopt a pound pup. At least the rescue dogs have a better "fall back" plan than the needle that awaits a dog in the pound.

I have a real problem with "rescue groups" that only try to save pure breed dogs. How about a guy like this?

He isn't anything but a mutt but he was worth saving. There are no "rescue groups" for dogs like Moe. He is the sweetest dog in the world. He insists on sleeping at the foot of my bed every night. He will never let me out of his sight. He follows me everywhere I go.

With a face like that, who could not love him? I have always heard that mixed breeds are a good deal because they are usually smart and you don't have to deal with the problems caused by the inbreeding that is often present in pure breed dogs. I love my mutts.

Maybe the girls eed to be old enough and responsible enough to manage the pets so Michelle doesn't have to. There is also the question about indoor pets versus outdoor for someone with allergies.

41. It depends on what her allergy is to, if she has one?
There are certain breeds that are suppose to cause less allergy symptoms due to less shedding or/and less saliva(smaller dogs).

1. Poodle and poodle hybrids
2. Schnauzer
3. Portuguese water dog
4. Soft coated Wheaten terrier
5. Maltese
6. Lhasa Apso
7. Yorkshire Terrier
8. Shih Tzu
9. Irish Water Spaniel
10. Kerry Blue Terrier

48. OK, I wasn't going to mention them because I volunteer rescue for
them, but Bichon Frise's need added to that list too. I've been a volunteer for about 7 years, and I've never heard anyone complain about any allergies. Personally I wouldn't want the President adopting one though. It would bring too much attention to the breed, and too many people would go get one of their own, later to realize they require love & attention, and they they'd end up in rescue as no longer wanted!!!!!

51. Yes I'm sure their eyes would light up, but when a Bichon won
Westminster Best of Show some years ago, there was a hugh number of people who rushed out to buy one...then hundreds of them ended up in shelters & rescue because the novelty wore off, and the realization of having to get them groomed every 4-6 week, housebreaking, vet bills & just the responsibility of haveing a dog set in! i've afraid that same thing would happen if The Obama's got one!!!

I am just making an observation; he needs a dog. I am suprised nobody in his campaign has pushed for him to get a "First dog", every president in recent history has had a dog or two while in the White house. He might as well get one now so he can house break it before they move in to the white house.

He has enough inane hoops to jump through to win the election, let's not add more to the already overtaxed list. I would hope that somebody gets a pet because they want one, not because they need to project an image.

If he, Michelle, or the kids want one, he'll get one.
If not,
