The "War" is over, the Pentagon should start handing out "Occupation" medals
Clearly, Bush's objectives have been met: He's routed Saddam and replaced it with a puppet government, every war profiteer imaginable has raked in billions of tax-payer dollars, he has plenty of dead and wounded warriors as a testament to his significance in the hallowed halls of warmongers and he's permanently changed the direction of US foreign policy, regardless of any subsequent administration's efforts to correct his debacles.

But, let's face it. The "War" in Iraq is over and his the people that he put into place have clearly pointed this fact out.

BAGHDAD, June 13 -- The Bush administration's Iraq policy suffered two major setbacks Friday when Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki publicly rejected key U.S. terms for an ongoing military presence and anti-American Shiite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr called for a new militia offensive against U.S. forces.

The moves by two of Iraq's most powerful Shiite leaders underscore how the presence of U.S. troops has become a central issue for Iraqi politicians as they position themselves for provincial elections later this year. Iraqis across the political spectrum have grown intolerant of the U.S. presence, but the dominant Shiite parties -- including Maliki's Dawa party -- are especially fearful of an electoral challenge from new, grass-roots groups.

"All the politicians are trying to prove that they care more about Iraqis than they do about Americans -- otherwise they know the people and the voters will not support them," said Ala Maaki, a senior lawmaker with Iraqi's largest Sunni political party. "I think we could see al-Maliki and Moqtada Sadr trying to one-up the other today and see who can take the strongest stand against the Americans."

The Bushies have yet to realize that his efforts in Iraq are flying in the faces of their leaders' sense of sovereignty which Bush himself has slaughtered so many people obtain.

Yes, the Iraqis have graduated from crawling to walking to running out in the middle of the garden to stomping mud all over his pretty white carpet.

The jigs up, baby. It's time that Bush call another tune rather than that same old song and dance he's been singing as he's about to exit stage right.

The thing that he should do is redesignate the "liberation" into an "occupation", as per the occupations in Japan and Germany that followed the end of combat operations in WWII. Bush has already taken the first step when he called the end of major combat operations in Iraq on 2 May 2003 on the deck of that aircraft carrier. Occupation medals should boost his ego in such a way that he's willing to change his tune and set the stage for the next administration to move on. The Iraqis clearly have pointed out that Bush needs to cease this "liberation" farce and they're going to emphasize that fact that our troops are engaging in an unwanted occupation.

If anything, this will let the Iraqis know that it's their party and the need to kill and maim more American troops will eventually become a moot point once the next administration starts pulling our boys and gals out en masse.

We all know that Bush is one stubborn S.O.B. It's that trait that has endeared him to his brain dead fans, the Twenty-two Percenters. But he has to know that his day in the sun can't last forever. He needs to cement his legacy and let the necessary changes take place. Makes sense, right?

But when EVER have any of us seen Bush to ANYTHING that makes sense?
