University of Iowa has shut down its Power Plant. Flood waters
were entering the plant.

Closes down hot water to the entire campus. The University Hospital is still functioning and has water available to be able to conduct surgeries.

1. I'm trying to picture all the university buildings in that area.

Are those science? What about the old capitol building? I can't recall if that is on higher ground.

The YouTube "tour" of Coralville was shocking. Apparently, the river runs behind Coralville? I can't remember.

2. The power plant is on the river by the Burlington Street Bridge and near
the Main Library and Lindquist Hall. It didn't even shut down in 1993.

Old Capitol is a little further up and on the top of a large hill. What is in danger of significant flooding is the Memorial Union.

3. Yes, I know where the power plant is, but am glad to hear the Old Capitol is high.
Maybe some of the students can find employment this summer, putting things back in order. Tragic.

Where does the river come down thru IC? Behind Coralville? I know it came past a restaurant (can't remember the name) north of the bridge, but I can't picture where it entered.

5. It comes down behind Coralville then winds around
by City Park and the Arts campus, which is being heavily impacted. They did remove most of the artwork this past week in anticipation of flooding. That area is filling up rapidly now.

The Coralville strip is flooded right now across the Hwy 6 in two places and is closed to traffic. It is flooded at the intersection of First Ave. in Coralville by the ball diamonds and Walgreens. It is also flooded up at the intersection by O'Reilly's law practice and the bar as you turn to go toward City Park--the area known as Mosquito Flats.

4. I think the Basic Science Building and hospital will stay on dry ground
The Capitol and administration building also should be high enough. However, they may be cut off from the rest of the city by flooding.
