1. Yes, it was covered on CNN. It's awful out there! I haven't seen
anything about FEMA activity??? Does that mean they are failing AGAIN just as they did in La. Ms etc?

3. really haven't heard anything about FEMA
It's the people of Iowa that are their own hero's. Pulling together and working their asses off.

That's the word I get from the friends I've talked to that live there.

19. WHY NOT? Isn't THAT what FEMA is there for? I would have
thought that after their bad rap during Katrina, they would have put their entire department in motion to show that they REALLY CAN do the right thing???? But then, maybe I'm thinking logically again!

2. You're right - it is getting worse.
Usually in a disaster like this the horrific incident occurs, then people begin doing what they have to do..

But this -- just keeps on coming. Is there any end in sight?

4. I'm in West Des Moines and it is being covered non-stop by our local news.
I don't live in a flood area. In fact, it is a beautiful day. But my neighbors in the north side of Des Moines are really suffering. It is very sad. What makes it even worse is that the areas most affected are the poorer areas of the city.

28. I'm in the Northeast (Cedar Falls) so I think we're done getting water
now just the folks in the North Cedar area of Cedar Falls, New Hartford and Janesville (and Waterloo) have got major clean up to do. Supposed to be dry today and possibly tomorrow. It's Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Des Moines that I'm worried about now.

7. Didn't you hear? A "newsman" died. What's a little flooding?
The media is in a frenzy to show that they're all larger than life by deifying Tim Russert. Flooding? They'll get to that tomorrow I'm sure.

17. Actually our local stations pre-empted any coverage of Russerts death
to cover the flooding and safety issues. They ran the special on him at 5:00 AM today instead.

21. Good for them. It's their job to report the news, especially local news
It was just a month ago that the tornado tore through Windsor CO and all the nationals were wall to wall tornado coverage. All of the reporting was done by local reporters.

16. That's where I first heard about it
The weather channel. First thing I turned on this morning.. I have so many friends that live out there all over the state, as well as my son. But thankfully he lives in the northwest corner of Iowa and they have been spared the flooding rains.

But there are many, many people we haven't heard from and we're concerned. 3 of his friends showed up at his door with little more than a duffel bag. Their houses are flooded out. Pull up a piece of floor:-)
