Edited on Sat Jun-14-08 01:51 PM by ColbertWatcher
Which of these American news stories was the most important for the week?

I messed up the original poll, so I offer a better version.

Which of these American news stories was the most important for the week?

3. It should have been the serious flooding in the MidWest, but I fear it ...
wasn't for most people and not for the MSM for sure. Many of the other things that you listed are also very important, least of them should have been Russert.

5. Originally I was just going to write something about...
...how news stories disappear under the GOP-controlled media noise.

But, I decided a poll would be better. You know, democracy and all.

4. It should be the impeachment articles
But it's actually the SCOTUS decision.

6. Forum at North Conway HS to address upcoming winter home heating crisis.
There is hardly any funding for this year. Everything will be based on emergency requests. George Bush and Co get away with it again and again and again.

8. I vote for ALL of the following:
.. I need to vote for more than one as follows:

35 Articles of Impeachment -- Most important event of the week.

Ireland's EU vote -- extremely important in light of the drive by elitists and hardright governments
to promote global free trade with continental consolidations.

The SCOTUS Ruling on Habeas Corpus -- Critically important as a last gasp effort to save part of the Constitution in a country that is fast losing its basic protections and freedoms.

Iowa and Midwest Flooding -- a very sad and significant event in light of the current food and fuel crises, along with the effects of global warming.

Salmonella in tomatoes -- very necessary to inform people of a health issue

top Air Force officials quitting

Afghanistan jailbreak!

ALL Congressional hearings

Death of Tim Russert -- in the scale of things a newsworthy occurrence, but not worthy of that much time when other crucial and critical events should have precedence

Space Shuttle Returns Safely

-------------

All of the news is important, particularly subjects
that promote the public, national, and world welfare.

While the death of Russert is newsworthy, it's not
nearly as important as the issues I listed above it.

11. I think the tomatoes and flooding are related...

...in that we used to have a system to prevent widespread flooding and to prevent contaminated food from entering the marketplace. Also the system we used to have had procedures in place in the event something went wrong.

The current flooding and outbreak of salmonella shows those systems are no longer in place.

Despite the taxes we've paid there are several broken levees and unchecked contamination in the food supply.

The system isn't working, the warning lights are flashing and once again, the morans in charge are getting drunk in another country with no intention of ending his vacation early; basically giving everyone the finger.

(ON EDIT: a closer simulation of the English language)

10. That was a hard one, but I had to vote for the Habeas Corpus ruling as the most far reaching.
Second most important story was the Cedar Rapids flooding... And only second because Habeas Corpus is the defining freedom of this country.

13. True, it's like the GOP is saying...
...not only did they not make any mistakes during Katrina, but they'll be damned if they change their way of doing things for this disaster.

Stay the course indeed.

14. Tossup between the flooding and the Supreme Court ruling --
I went with the ruling as it affects everyone in the country. I think that's more important than impeachment at this time.

That doesn't diminish my horror and feelings of sadness over what's happening in IN and IA.

15. It's tough to choose when so many important things happened this week
Edited on Sat Jun-14-08 02:59 PM by crickets
Articles of impeachment would normally be at the top for me, but habeas corpus edged it out. If it weren't for the national import of those two, the flooding would be it. Hands down. My heart goes out to all of the people suffering right now in the Midwest.
