Listening to liberals just tires me (LTTE)
http://www.wausaudailyherald.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080615/WDH06/806150306/1638
I'm tired. Tired of putting up with the results of a lunatic minority who have convinced half the population that man-made global warming is going to destroy civilization. I'm tired of listening to the idiots who tell us we can't drill for oil in Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, the continental shelf, or utilize oil shale in Colorado and Utah, and then complain because they are paying too much for gas. I'm worn out from watching us become dependent on foreign sources for 65 to 70 percent of our oil because lunacy has stopped us from using our own oil resources. It really steams me that while we can't drill for oil in our territories, the Cubans have sold leases to the Chinese, who are now drilling 50 miles from Key West.

It really burns my hide that my kids are forced in school to watch Al Gore's movie as if it's scientific fact, despite thousands of scientists who refute it's claims.

Don't even get me started on ethanol. And what about nuclear power, which has proven to be one of the cleanest, safest sources of energy? No, don't even start with the old, worn out Nine Mile Island and Chernobyl arguments. Our technology has come too far and we're not the Russians.

In the fall we'll go to the polls and a majority of Americans will once again vote for politicians like Russ Feingold and Herb Kohl who will continue to block our progress in becoming energy independent.

This is the letter of the week in our local newspaper. Fools like this have taken over the blog, that they continually whine is too liberal. So far this morning there's been one response:
More right wing talking points regurgitated without any facts being taken into account.
Fact: US oil companies have applied for and received more than 10,000 permits to drill for oil in the US and on the continental shelf.
Fact: US oil companies between 1975 and 2000 applied for and received a total of one permit to build a new refinery.
Fact: US oil refineries are operating at about 89% of capacity, there is no bottleneck.
Fact: US consumption of oil has declined about 2% recently.
Fact: There are no oil shortages. Does anyone see gas lines at the pump?
Fact: If Anwar was developed in ten years, when the oil started flowing, it would reduce the cost of a barrel of oil less than $2.00.
FACT: Oil speculators are driving the price of oil, not supply and demand!

I also had to point out that neither Feingold not Kohl are up for election this year. This writer can seem to get anything right.

7. "Don't even get me started on ethanol." Ok, I'll do it for you. Who has been pushing ethanol?
The President of the United States pounded the notion home during his State of the Union address:

We must also change how we power our automobiles. We will increase our research in better batteries for hybrid and electric cars, and in pollution-free cars that run on hydrogen. We'll also fund additional research in cutting-edge methods of producing ethanol, not just from corn, but from wood chips and stalks, or switch grass. Our goal is to make this new kind of ethanol practical and competitive within six years.

8. This part burns me up.
And what about nuclear power, which has proven to be one of the cleanest, safest sources of energy? No, don't even start with the old, worn out Nine Mile Island and Chernobyl arguments. Our technology has come too far and we're not the Russians.

Our technology has come far since the Challenger explosion, too. And yet...Columbia.

Technology is not perfect. Accidents happen. Unfortunately, when an accident at a nuclear facility happens, the results are potentially lethal to MILLIONS of people. Since the catastrophic consequences are so much worse than the alternative, we must strive toward greater mechanical perfection and safety techniques before we can safely use nuclear power on the scale needed to power the nation.

--Make the chance of an accident as small as we possibly can by perfecting the technology to a much more sophisticated degree than it is today.
--Make the safety valves, releases, and overrides as myriad and "overkill" as we possibly can, so that IF an accident occurs, we have time to evacuate the innocent people who would otherwise die horrible deaths.
--Use science to discover a way to spot-neutralize radiation in the atmosphere, water, and earth.

Then and only then will nuclear power be truly safe to use.

12. Even if nuclear becomes perfectly safe
it still takes 100 years for a nuclear power plant to break even due to of all the energy and resources it takes to build one.

10. you guys think it's funny....
ok, it is funny...but
this kinda 'liberal is media' crap is pushed everyday on the talk radio i hear (can't get AAR or NovaM or Pacifica etc) and the ignorance is relentless. To disagree with the nazipoohs makes one a 'retard' which talkradio uses as 'enough said'! The fact is there's no dealing with the nazipoohs-they must be run outta town like rabid mutts or they'll infect every fire hydrant in sight...not to mention the dingbats who listen to hate radio. And those dingbsts are about the best well spoken well fed well educated well dressed family men you'll ever hear....fascism is a disaster for a society, like cancer or something

11. Note how rightists usually resort to labeling people "lunatic," "idiot," "fools {who} "whine," etc
It's amazing how much of this exact penchant likewise manifests here at DU.

14. This guy has an answer to your response
"And as usual a liberal looks down their nose at some one who is not perfect like they are." He didn't like that the original letter writers errors were pointed out. I guess they're so used to ignoring mistakes and lies that we should all do it.

18. True...I've noticed many loudmouths who are aggressive online never seem to shoot their big mouths..
...off in real time like they do in cyberspace, likely for fear of having their ass handed to em on a platter as they're spitting teeth. Of course, I'm gaging that by the usual sort of political discussions I find myself in at work, or with friends/family - none of which are blatant rightists.

Do we steam you first, or burn your hide.

Are there any garnishes you'd prefer we use? Spices? Potatoes or rice as a side dish? What veggies?
