"Joe Lieberman is fast becoming the Democrats' public enemy No. 1."
Lieberman irks Democrats by criticizing Obama

By ANDREW MIGA
Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Joe Lieberman is fast becoming the Democrats' public enemy No. 1.

The four-term Connecticut senator, who came tantalizingly close to being Al Gore's vice president in 2000, not only has been campaigning for his pal, presumed Republican nominee John McCain, now he's publicly criticizing the Democrats' standard-bearer, Barack Obama. Lieberman has strayed before, most notably switching from Democrat to independent in 2006 to hold onto his Senate seat after a Democratic primary loss.

But the latest betrayal has upset Democrats, who often answer in clipped but polite tones when asked about Lieberman. The reason: The independent still caucuses with the Democrats on most issues except the Iraq war, and he holds their slim political majority in his hands.

"There's a commonly held hope that he's not going to be transformed into an attack dog for Republicans," said Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., an Obama supporter.

Lieberman has wasted no time in questioning Obama's positions on Iran and Israel, two topics on which Lieberman and McCain agree. Just one day after Obama clinched his party's nomination, Lieberman joined Republicans on a McCain campaign teleconference call assailing Obama following his foreign policy address to a leading Jewish group.

Lieberman accused Obama of blaming U.S. policies for "essentially sort of strengthening" Iran.

1. POS is finished after the Dems build a solid Senate majority in November.
Until then, I guess we have to put up with the SOB getting more attention than he deserves, including a prominent speaking role at the GOP convention, like Zell (puke) Miller.

2. I wonder if the people of Connecticut are..
.. suffering buyer's remorse.

To this day, I still don't understand why
Lamont didn't win.

7. It was the Connecticut Republicans who elected Lieberman. They got exactly what they wanted. (nt)

17. Two words: Hartford Courant...
They kept referring to Ned Lamont as 'the millionaire cable businessman from Greenwich,' every single time.
Even the day that Lamont won the primary, the HC's headline *actually read*
Ned Wins - Joe's In!
They had *equal pictures* of the winner (Lamont) and loser (LieberBush).

3. "he holds their slim poltical majority"
Fat lot of good THAT does.

Yeah I know, they couldn't keep the majority designation in the chairmanships without him.

But WHEN has that "majority" advantage counted when hordes of Blue Dog dems vote aginst Dem proposals all the time?

8. it's not the Blue Dogs causing problems in the Senate
it's the fact that everything requires a cloture vote of 60, and that Republicans, unlike Democrats are not afraid to fillibuster, fillibuster, fillibuster. Not to mention the difficulty of over-riding the veto pen that Bush suddenly discovered after 2006.

20. Ah yes, forgot about the cloture votes
Strange how "obstructionist filibustering" has fallen off the map, isn't it?

And of course, there's ZERO talk about the "Nuclear Option", is there?

18. Oh sure, "Give in to the Dark Side, Luke." Nuh uh. Not gonna ruin my Jedi creds.
In my opinion, Joe Lieberman should eat shit and die. But I won't actually wish for him to eat shit and die. Thus, I protect my virtue. ;)

5. Not that Joe should not get the boot.
But, it is a difficult position for Reid. Joe is a jerk, but on economic and social issues Lieberman normally votes with the Dems.

6. I'm honestly not sure whether I hate Lieberman or McCain more.
Edited on Sun Jun-15-08 10:43 AM by Occam Bandage
And I'm aware how stupid this is, since Lieberman is a solid liberal on every single issue not involving bombs. But still, I hate that slimy, hideous-looking, baleen-toothed ratfucker.

16. Ou poloicies have strengthened Iran
I think Lieberman is confused. Presenting a stronger Iran would bolster his claims that Iran is becoming more of a threat, but then he is forced to acknowledge that the reason that Iran has become stronger is a direct result of our action in Iraq, by getting rid of Saddam, creating instability, and increasing the power of the Iranian-friendly Shia.

19. It still pisses me off that Al Gore had to choose this mealy mouthed, whiny
back-stabbing turncoat POS as his VP. No telling how many votes having this garbage on the ticket cost him.
