Oh no, another Tim Russert post!
I have to make a comment on the way corporate cable news is covering Russert's untimely death vs. the way they cover the death of other public figures. With Russert is is pure worship. They are not airing even one critical comment. It is complete glorification. What if Bill Clinton or Ted Kennedy had been the one who had passed? I think we would be getting endless reruns of the Lewinsky hug or hearing about Kennedy's foibles and shortcomings. It would be done in a respectful way no doubt but we would be shown that they were imperfect. Not so with Russert. It is all worship.

1. Apparently, he was that rarest of men
Someone about whom no one has a bad thing to say, a mean story to tell, not a whiff of scandal about his life, just that he was a good man who loved his family, his work, his country.

I've seen lots of people here vent their spleen at his perceived (by them) shortcomings, but a closer examination of what they write betrays the fact that they truly did not understand the nature of his job. So, they're angry because he didn't do what they wanted him to do. But that tells you more about them than it might about Tim Russert, who seems to have been a very good man.

No wonder he's inspired messages of condolence and admiration from everyone from Bruce Springsteen to that toad who currently squats in the Oval Office.
