NY Post tries to infer that Keith is feminine by way of RLS
I hope he sues the bastards!!

june 15, 2008 -- THE perplexing mystery of why Keith Olbermann acts like a twitchy, hopped-up geek on his MSNBC show has been solved.

The New Yorker's Peter J. Boyer reports the TV loudmouth "has been given a diagnosis of Wittmaack-Ekbom's syndrome, also known as 'restless legs syndrome' (and also 'the kicks,' 'Jimmy legs' and 'the jitters'), a neurological disorder that produces a prickling, itching or crawling feeling in the legs."

Known as a women's ailment because it strikes twice as many women as men, the syndrome has stirred controversy among doctors who don't agree whether it's even real or instead caused by various physical and/or emotional factors. Olbermann is uncoordinated - he can't drive, having once smashed his swollen head leaping into a subway car. The concussion permanently upset his equilibrium, he claims.

The New Yorker also reveals that CBS was so desperate to find a replacement for Dan Rather, it nearly stooped to hiring Olbermann. CBS president Les Moonves and his news chief, Andrew Heywood, held a "secret meeting" with Olbermann, where he said he wanted to "redirect" the last three minutes of each newscast with "his personal touch." After a second meeting, the CBS suits picked Katie Couric instead.

It was a major relief to old-school news vets. "Oh, no, no, no, 's not a newsman. He's not a reporter. I've never seen anything that he's done that was original in terms of information. It's all derivative," said Sandy Socolow, who was Walter Cronkite's final executive producer.

Tom Brokaw, who's had to give Olbermann on-air scoldings for his leftist grandstanding, told The New Yorker: "Listen, it's a strain. And it's under constant examination." But Olbermann actually thinks he'd rock in a nightly news slot, boasting, "I think it would not do any worse than the three that are out there now."

1. Well, you should get you news from a newspaper
. . . instead of a right wing tabloid.

13. The New Yorker's article, while not particularly KO-friendly, did not belittle him
like the Post's characterization of it wants you to believe.

See, what the Post is doing here is trying to convince you that the New Yorker article is as vitrolic of KO as their "interpretation" of it is. What they did is, they cherry-picked facts from it (KO has restless leg syndrome, Tom Brokaw once gently advised the MSNBC panel not to pass judgment too quickly) and then applied their own "spin" to it.

THEY are the ones who Googled "restless leg syndrome," found out that more women than men have it, and decided that it was something they could deride KO with as a "women's disease." THEY also found that some experts believe it to be psychosomatic (as they do fibromyalgia and some other conditions) and used that to make a slam against him, too.

THEY took the "gentle on-air warning" from Brokaw to his "colleagues" and rewrote it into a situation in which Brokaw "had to" "scold" Keith PERSONALLY. It wasn't in the original article that way at all.

The New York Pest Page 6 employs masters of cherry-picking and misinterpretation. If you want to read what the real New Yorker article says, go here:

4. Back before the news became part of the entertainment division of the
networks, I watched because they were the first to bring you a breaking story. Then I picked up the newspaper the next day to get the full and in depth stories. But now even my bible for forty years "The Los Angeles Times" has turned in to a right wing rag, so I have to scan the internet to keep informed. DU is very helpful in that way in steering you to the important stuff.

9. Indeed.
Nothing in here, as annoying and stupid as it is, even approaches the level of being sue-worthy.

This is just the New York Pest coming at it again because Rupert Murdoch is soooo upset that Keith's starting to draw blood from Billo and Fixed Noise in the ratings--that's all.

OF COURSE they're going to try to "feminize" him by calling any ailment he has "a women's ailment." (Can you imagine what they'd say if he were diagnosed with breast cancer? They'd be jumping for joy.) OF COURSE they'd imply that it's probably not real--just psychosomatic, a figment of his obviously unbalanced mind. (Ask anyone with fibromyalgia how many time they've been told "It's all in your head.") OF COURSE they'd call him uncoordinated, klutzy and unbalanced in every way possible. And, OF COURSE they'd twist the words of the article to imply that the judgment of ONE person at CBS that he's "not a newsman" and "not a reporter" is the final judgment on him. (Right, so after talking to him twice, they hired a REAL "newsman" and "reporter"--Katie Couric--and they're much better off in the ratings as a result, aren't they?) And OF COURSE they'd also twist what Tom Brokaw said to him on air into "scoldings for his leftist grandstanding"--because THAT'S HOW SCARED THEY ARE OF HIM. (The author of the article described it merely as "a gentle on-air warning from Tom Brokaw to his colleagues to stay out of 'the business of making judgments before the polls have closed and trying to stampede, in effect, the process.'”)

The New Yorker article also mentions that KO wrote his first Special Comment, against Rumsfeld, after having had "a couple of screwdrivers." I'm surprised the Pest didn't twist that into "he writes his Special Comments while drunk."

Every time you read something about KO in the Post, take it for what it is: a feeble attempt at psyops. After all, that's what he does, as the article says:

"This is an old schoolyard thing I learned from being repeatedly beat up in the fourth grade. It finally dawned on me one day—they are going to keep beating me up whether I respond to them or not.”

He doesn't even seem to let it bother him anymore.

2. What a hit piece.
They don't want any independent thinkers, just lockstep good Germans on their news shows, which is why I stopped watching any of them after Dan Rather got the boot. My four TV news and current events choices, are Democracy Now with Amy Goodman, BBC America News, Keith Olbermann's Countdown and Bill Moyers Journal every Friday. Anything else is a waste of my time and crappy journalism.

When it's repulsive even for the New York Post, you know it's REALLY bad.

And not even factually correct. Keith doesn't claim that the subway accident "upset his equilibrium," it physically damaged his depth perception. I'm not even sure it's legal for him to drive.

19. Who owns the NY Post?
Right. And when he fired Olbermann some years back, Olbermann shot back and Murdoch ended up paying him $100,000 a month until the end of his contract. Who had THAT last laugh?

They can't touch KO for what he does, because he does it so well and because truth is on his side. So they try - and fail, of course - to attack him personally. Consider the source.

When KO was reporting on Russert's death on Friday afternoon, just after MSNBC had announced it, he teared up, and there was just a slight hitch in his voice. Then he got it under control - he's a pro, after all - and continued. I just loved him.

26. The Post also published twisted accounts of the Anthrax scare that
he & Jon Stewart endured after the FBI had asked the media to let them do some investigation first..

IIRC the culprit turned out to be a freeper..

27. The culprit was indeed a freeper.
They published all sorts of lies about that incident, too, and tried to make him look like a big baby who insisted on being taken to the hospital, when it was the police who insisted he go. They took away all the clothes and personal possessions he had on him when he opened the envelope and destroyed them, including his wallet and his cell phone.

As does my mother and a few others in my family.

It really sucks. It's kept me up at night...but what do I know, I guess I'm just a feminine guy.

A Gin and tonic at night helps. Both Juniper and Quinine are reputed to still the symptoms. It's been working pretty good for me, though Gin isn't my favorite.

23. no, that piece of fishwrap IMPLIED that KO is feminine, and expected us to INFER that
from the nonsense in the article.

by the way, does anybody have links to ANY time that brokaw said anything to KO about his "leftist grandstanding"? is brokaw his boss? does he have ANY reason to be in a position to say anything to him?
