My Turn To Post a Russert Thread !! Funeral to be like State Funeral.. News Companies to Shut Down.
(Looks to me like they're already SHUT down)

NBC Tim Russert Funeral will be closed to the public.

According to an unidentified source inside the NBC newsroom in DC. Tim Russert's funeral is going to be the closest to the Public likened to a state funeral. a high level civilian could have in Washington. The main Washington news companies will shut down for the event.

The Flags at NBC Headquarters are at half staff. Something that is reserved for statesmen. Many would argue he was a statesmen of another kind.

A soon as Politisite gets the funeral arrangements, we will pass them on to you

1. Russert..
.. the pope of broadcast pseudojournalism.

He's practically a religious icon now.

In terms of collective psychology, I find
that very interesting.. and disturbing at
the same time.

26. We are a sick society...
He may have been a fun guy and a great friend, but he was no journalist, anymore than Stephanopoulis and Matthews are journalists. They are self-absorbed Washington apparatchiks, eager to do the bidding of the "right" people.

His favored technique of springing long-ago statements on his "guests" with an a-ha smirk may have been amusing but it was useless in eliciting information.

41. Russert seemed like a genuinely nice guy - but that's the problem
He had that blue-collar, unpretentious, regular guy type of image with a ubiguitous smile, an easy manner, and a sharp mind. I'm sorry that he died. Whether he was a skilled interviewer, however, who asked the right questions or not is open to debate.

But television news seems to focus on personalities and image more than on the quality of reporting. The reporters and television personalities seem to have become bigger than the story in the modern era. I wouldn't mind if a cold-hearted unemotional computer conducted interviews. I'm not interested in who is asking the question or how I feel about that person. I'm interested in the answers and facts that are elicited. I'm not sure if Russert is being celebrated because he was a great journalist or because he was a very likable guy.

2. I hope closed to the public also means not televised, but I
somehow doubt that. Man, it's nice to honor a fellow journalist, but this seems way overboard to me.

The more coverage they have, the more annoyed I get.

3. At this point, its gone beyond 'respect" and they're into grabbing ratings, I'm sorry to say. And it
is all going to be used to HYPE whomever will replace Russert on MTP.

9. All this for a hack?
Who cares. He was a television personality whose death shouldn't be a concern for anyone other than his family and friends. Why would he deserve anything like a state funeral? He was merely a pundit. What was it that he ever did that was remotely worthwhile? He certainly was not a journalist.

12. I don't think they have to worry about the public
What these people fail to realize is that 99.99% of "the public" does not give a rats ass about Tim Russert or any of the rest of them.

Personally, if they were burying him across the road from me, I wouldn't bother to walk over there and look.

And just to show you how influential he was, when I went to the feed store yesterday I asked five people what they thought about the death of Tim Russert.

One said he was sorry that he died, three of them did not know he was dead, and the fifth did not know who Tim Russert was.

These people are a bit full of themselves.

29. Are you asking me?
I think I recall about nine deaths attributed to the flooding (I hope there were not more) but that's just from reading online, I don't usually watch the news.

I understand your point and it's well taken; the media needs to be exposed and it seems they are succeeding in outing themselves as the Greedy Selfish people they are.

We've finally reached the point where that old saying might come true, "Give them enough rope and they'll hang themselves."

30. It's like the latter days of the Roman Empire
When the empire's power and influence were steadily decreasing, the proclamations of the emperor were delivered with increasing pomp and ceremony. I think the MSM is trying to make itself look more important while bloggers and people like Palast and those McClatchy reporters are drinking their journalistic milkshake.
