I didn't know much about him before, but after listening to him address the CFR last week I can't help but feel that we really need this guy out there bumping for Obama a whole lot more.

1. I think he would help us there and in other places.
The question would be whether we want him out of his newly-won Senate seat.

He's a good man.

3. We rather need our Dem Senators, at least the ones that are as tough, respected and as smart as Webb
Right where they are.

5. That could be the thinking. I don't discount the attributes Webb would bring
to Democrats, whether he remains in the Senate or not.

I'm still celebrating that win over George Allen.

17. Was it fairly close? I can't remembr
I do know I was relieved the moment that I heard Webb won.

Are you in Virginia??

18. Hi, truedelphi. No, I'm not in Virginia, but I've distrusted George Allen for
so long I can't remember when I first began to -- he was just an awful, revolting excuse for a Senator.

So along came Jim Webb and with the help of some damned classy local organizers, he whipped Allen. Yes -- it was a very close finish and the final outcome wasn't known officially until a couple days later, but Webb pulled it out.

Big upset, happy night for us Allen-hating Dems nationwide!

2. I like him a lot.
Geez, he's even smart, too.

The GOP will dumb down their ticket, which is hard to do with McCain, who is a dolt.

6. Yes in VA. Even more with the military vote.
Edited on Sun Jun-15-08 05:28 PM by Radical Activist
The military is up for grabs and someone like Webb would let them know that Obama can't be pigeon holed as a troop-hating liberal.

I think Obama has a real good shot at winning MO anyway, being from a neighboring state and increasing black turn out. The St. Louis media market has been hearing about Obama for a long time.

7. There's been quite a few articles trashing the idea of Webb, but
ultimately I'm going to depend on Obama to pick the person most able to help him and the party.

But here's one:

9. his experience in DOD impresses me a lot, and I like his stance on placing limits on CEO...
salaries.

The stuff on his lack of campaign prowess does concern me though, I didn't know any of that stuff having not witnessed the campaign in Virginia.

I'm not so worried about his past comments on gender, he's recanted those past comments ad nauseam. He's no more a sexist than Robert Byrd is a Klan member. People make bad judgements in the past, everyone has the ability to move on from mistakes.

13. I like him a lot, but he screwed up on the telecom bill
He voted in favor of letting the companies off, which disappointed me. Still, he's not George Allen, so I'm still a fan.

I think he's no campaigner, and I know he has a short fuse. So, ultimately, I don't think he'd do Obama a whole lot of good.

8. We need Webb here more than Obama needs him
He'll be more helpful to President Obama in the Senate. And, if we get Mark Warner elected, well, Mr. Jefferson's Commonwealth would then have two Democrats as Senators, and I could die happy.

10. you know, the thought of ex Sen Maccaca getting that seat back does scare the shit out of me
better to lock George "Maccaca" Allen out of Virginia's top seats of government.

11. If you want a populist on the ticket, you're much better off with John Edwards on the ticket.
He, of the top three Democratic contestants for the nominee position, polled best in general election match-ups against any of the Republican contenders. Put him in the VP slot to cash in on that.

12. you know, I love John Edwards but I can't forgive him for that VP debate against Cheney in 2004
Edited on Sun Jun-15-08 05:49 PM by NNguyenMD
The charge that Cheney made against him regarding not being in the Senate for votes needed to be confronted AT THE DEBATE, not the spin room.

I don't know what it was going on in Edwards mind that told him to hold back, but he missed some BIG opportunities to tear down Cheney. Maybe it didn't cost us the 2004 election, but it sure didn't help.

15. Obama will win VA without Webb....Warner is gonna be 60%+ winner for Senate
Add this to increased AA turnout and Northern VA demographic shifts, and it is very favorable to Obama even without Webb as VP.

Webb is a great man. Hate to lose him in the Senate.

Better to get a nominee who will help win another state. imho

He's doing a good job there, imo.
