I'll get my ass handed to me for this, but who cares. I thought that once we got past Hillary v. Obama, we could all reunite as progressive democrats and move on. But no. With the passing of Tim Russert, DU is right back to dividing itself over something that while perhaps bringing about strong feelings one way or the other in many of us, is taking our eyes off the ball. Love him or hate him, or really just don't care, we are in the most important GE many of us will ever experience, and our focus needs to be on bringing down John McCain. Tim Russert has moved on. Loved him, mourn him. Hated him, pop a bottle of champaign. But come on folks, let's keep all of these distractions to the side, and remember that if somehow McCain wins in November, we are all screwed, not just democrats, but pretty much EVERYBODY. We don't need four more years of Bush, and being distracted and divided is one way to help make it happen!

4. Don't worry, this too shall pass, soon. Any big story on DU is |
|
loved/reviled/embraced/ripped apart/ and then forgotten when people go on to the next 'big' story. That's the nature of this place. By Wednesday, you'll be asking, "Russert who?"

6. Distraction is part of the process. |
|
There will be many more.
Get used to it and be willing to fight to get people to pay attention to what is important.

7. People argue here because they like to argue. |

Edited on Mon Jun-16-08 12:13 AM by TexasObserver
The problem is your expectation that anything will eliminate conflict at DU. It's a natural consequence of having thousands of people commenting on a message board. If every person on this board agreed about Hillary, Obama, and Russert, they'd still argument over something.
I don't expect conflict to end, I expect it redirect, which it has.

Just wait till next week. The media will have another issue du jour and DU will have a battle royale about that one.

9. So you won't be joining in on our candle light vigil to remember St Tim, starting Thursday? |
|
Friday the 20th, as you know, will mark the one-week anniversary of St Tim's passing. To commemorate this event, next week's Meet the Press will suspend normal news coverage, just like today's did, and instead be dedicated to covering more of the life of this wonderfulmanwhomwellallmiss.
How can you be so heartless? I'll bet you haven't even bought a "We Remember Tim" tee shirt yet.

10. It's no longer a commentary on Russert |
|
Edited on Mon Jun-16-08 12:21 AM by tularetom
It's an indication of how inbred and self absorbed our so called journalists and political commentators are.
I was perfectly content to let this whole thing disappear of its own weight, but every time I turned on MSNBC this whole fucking weekend there was Russert in all his bulgy eyed chipmunk cheeked glory pontificating on some political issue or another.
Just because these elite media types thought Timmy was hot shit doesn't mean the rest of us did. His death was news for one day.
He's dead. Boo fucking hoo. Now let's move on.

I guess it won't matter anyway. You won't be around to listen.
