I'm not a sentimental man....
But this made me wipe a tear from my eye.

SAN FRANCISCO - Phyllis Lyon and Del Martin fell in love at a time when lesbians risked being arrested, fired from their jobs and sent to electroshock treatment.

On Monday, more than a half-century after they became a couple, Lyon and Martin plan to become one of the first same-sex couples to legally exchange marriage vows in California.

"It was something you wanted to know, 'Is it really going to happen?' And now it's happened, and maybe it can continue to happen," Lyon says.

To live that long as a couple and then finally, at the end of their life together, get a chance to be legal. It's wonderful.

5. Absolutely Beautiful
I think my son said it best when I was trying to explain what's happening in California, and why it's such a big deal. He couldn't understand why so many people were afraid of it. He said "What's wrong with people loving each other? Love is a good thing."

Out of the mouths of babes....

Congratulations Phyllis and Del!

7. This is why I have faith for the future...
Each year, no matter what the chattering classes care to say about it, the people out here, out beyond the beltway, become a little more tolerant with each passing generation.

We see that play out racially with the nomination of Barack Obama.

We see it in Mass. and now California.
