$5.29 A Gallon In Orlando...Not Kidding |
|
.....My lil Red car was running a little low on petro today so I pulled around the corner near the International airport and swiped my debit card and as I was getting ready to push the octane I wanted I noticed that 87 octane had a price of $5.29 a gallon....I thought it might be an error at that pump and checked out the pump on the other island where the price was the same.I canceled the process.
I proceeded to go inside to see if there was a mistake. When I asked the cashier if there was an error or did gas prices have a sharp rise overnight she responded in a bitchy arrogant tone and said......"OUR PRICES HAVE ALWAYS BEEN HIGHER" I said a whole dollar twenty??????.....she said again "ALWAYS BEEN HIGHER"....I said a dollar twenty is raping the pocketbook of the consumers and said once again my belief that fuel prices like other utility's has been reaffirmed and left.
I am planning on sending emails to the local network here in Orlando to make them aware.......What Abuse......

1. The key is "Around the corner from the airport" |
|
The station is taking advantage of tourists returning rental cars.
I've seen this sort of thing all over the country.

there is always a 20-30 percent markup on gas in known tourist traps, and near airport rental car returns...

3. Must of been one that was closest |
|
to the airport and in the direction people heading toward Disney would go. Shame you couldn't of made it down closer to Curryford or Lake Underhill Rds. Except for the Mobile they were usually pretty decent. Then again you have had a few repuke governors since I left down there so things are worse.

8. There are laws against price gouging, but it only applies during a state of emergency |
|
A few years back when Crist was AG he went after gas stations who jacked up their prices when the state was hit by hurricanes.

9. I think the Local TV News would be the way to go with this |
|
They really might do a story on this.
We have a gas station that is on US 1 coastal route where the price is always at least a dollar or more than normal, but it is the only station for 40 or more miles in either direction. I don't consider that gouging because most trucks are not allowed on that road unless they have a permit.

11. Why would the owners of the gas station care? |
|
Most of their customers are not locals who will see the report, but tourists and business travelers. If the price was too high, people would turn around and find another gas station.

6. Over $4.50 is Normal Here |
|
Edited on Mon Jun-16-08 02:16 PM by ComtesseDeSpair
In Chicago, we've been paying well over $4.00 for weeks now. In fact, the other day, I filled up my Corolla and it took over $50.00 to fill it up - for the first time ever. If I'm being stung like that, I can't imagine what the Hummer/truck/SUV brigade is going through.

|
I've paid $4.59 for regular here in Sacramento the last time I filled up (and it was the cheapest gas station around)
