Let Sen. Obama know you support same sex marriage:
Petition in support of same sex marriage to POTUS candidates Senators Obama and McCain from the Care2 Petitions site:

"The California Supreme Court recently deemed denying same-sex couples the right to marry unconstitutional, paving the way for same-sex marriage in the state. New York's governor David Paterson also recently decided to recognize same-sex marriages lawfully performed in other states and countries. These are important steps in the ongoing fight for marriage equality.

Every couple - regardless of sexual orientation - deserves the benefits that marriage brings, including equal rights to health care and the primary caregiver status. Voice your support of same-sex marriage to presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama."

2. Done
First time I've ever signed an online petition. I don't like shooting personal info through the tubes, but I believe very strongly in this.

3. Care2 is a good outfit.
They send me petitions about once per day. I confess to signing most of the ones that they send me. They are quick and easy to fill out and these folks send them off to where they can do the most good. I would urge you to check this organization out. Cost: $0, benefit: well how can that be measured? I HATE spam but these guys are a great and absolutely wonderful exception.
Thanks for signing this one...I agree, this is indeed an issue worth feeling strongly about.

9. Done especially with Del and Phylis in mind
and my great-uncle and his partner. They lived together from the mid-1920's until they were parted by his partner's family and his death.

And, least I forget, with my brother-in-law and his partner in mind.

One small step for human rights. Thank you California.

19. I really can't tell you how much these marriages mean to me
My mom and dad had to wait and travel to another state to get married back in the 1950's because my mom was American Indian and my dad was white. Both my parents were in the service. My dad was a Marine and my mom was a WAC but they couldn't get married because racially mixed marriages weren't performed in some states. How sad is that? Two people in love and they couldn't get married because 1) there were laws against it and 2) they were born of different races. It wasn't until 1967 that Loving v. Virgina was overturned and miscegenation laws became a thing of the past that they were free to marry in any state. By that time they had been married 14 years and had seven kids.

Now GLBT couples are having to travel to different states to get married because 1) the are laws against it and 2) they share a gender. It is just so stupid. It is as stupid as not allowing two people of different races to get married. If two people are in love then they should be able to get married. End of story.

I see Del and Phyllis and I see love. And isn't that what marriage and commitment all about?

20. I treasure their union, in love, as I do my own
I have not only signed this petition I am writing letters to the Obama campaign and to the DNC asking them to join the fight for equal rights for all of us. And I will continue the pressure on my elected officials as well. They really need to get a backbone on this issue.
