23. Well, I am not albino |
|
but I am super pale! So I guess it was natural for me to think about how an albino person might have reacted to the post. Plus I saw an article in the NYT recently, about how some albino people in Africa are actually being killed for their body parts (believed to bring good luck to the holder). It was pretty horrifying.
Thanks for the reply, rhett o rick. We're all prone to these verbal goof-ups sometime. No worries.

No one is indigenous to anywhere, or, alternatively, everyone is indigenous to everywhere.

7. Please be more precise. What is the definition of "white people". |
|
I once read a an anthropologist say that when it comes to deciding race divisions, we have two choices. Either everyone is in the same race or each and everyone of us is a separate race. Any other differentiation is arbitrary.

12. Since the question relates to skin color, "white people" works. |
|
And race in the sense we use it is a fairly-recent sociocultural invention.

17. I disagree that skin color can be used as a method to determine who is white. |
|
There is an infinite degree of skin colors from black to white. Where do YOU draw the lines?

We're (mostly) white now, but back when my ancestors came here, we weren't. In fact, when the musical Show Boat opened in 1927, the part of Queenie (an African American character) was played by Tess Gardella, an Italian American. It wasn't until the mid 1930's when Queenie was played by an African American woman, Hattie McDaniel.

36. weren't the Indo-Europeans native to Central Asia/Iran? |
|
I've read that only a few people, like the Basques and Picts, were related to the original Neolithic settlers of Europe. The so-called Europeans migrated later from the regions around Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, etc, moving partly into Europe, and partly into Iran and India.
Ironically, the Berbers of North Africa are probably descended from the original European indigenous inhabitants, and migrated to North Africa later via the Gibraltar isthmus.
Instead of telling whitey to "go back to Europe", maybe it should be "go back to Tajikistan?" Doesn't have the same ring, though.
