Bush Becoming a Catholic?
President Bush may follow in the footsteps of his brother Jeb and convert to Catholicism, several European papers are reporting.

In the wake of the president’s visit to see Pope Benedict XVI at the Vatican, Italian newspapers, citing Vatican sources, said Bush was open to the idea of converting to Catholicism.

The Italian newspaper Il Foglio referred to such talk about Bush’s possible conversion and stated that “anything is possible, especially for someone reborn like Bush.”

Noting that Tony Blair converted to Catholicism after leaving office as Britain’s prime minister last year, the paper also stated that “if anything happens, it will happen after he finishes his period as president, not before. It is similar to Blair’s case, but with different circumstances.”

15. yep. Jurisdictional Conference in July will ultimately decide if SMU can cede the land
for the library/think tank.

It's embarrassing that he claims to be a United Methodist, and Cheney too

12. He's confused.
The only reason he'd want to convert to Catholicism is because he thinks he'll get to wear some pretty cool hats 'n stuff.

16. Why? Because during the Inquisition it was legal to torture?
But would they accept someone that is an idiot and further increase the negativity towards Roman Catholics?

18. He knows when he confesses to a priest it is confidential
That way he can say he made amends yet not pay any repercussions.

Bush, "Bless me father, I have sinned. I'm responsible for killing thousands of Iraqis and American troops. I lied the country into war."

Priest, "Make an act of contrition and say 10 Hail Mary's and 10 Our Father's."

Bush, "Well that was easy!"

21. That's not exactly how it works
When I was being prepared for First Confession and First Communion sister told us that it did no good to confess our sins unless we were truly sorry. She said we could go into the confessional and tell the priest all the lousy stuff we'd done and we might even fool the priest into giving absolution, but we couldn't fool God.

Besides, confessing doesn't aboslve anyone of legal responsibility (in fact part of the penance could be to turn oneself over to the proper authorities).

24. Busholini signed off on at least 130 DP cases.
How will that go over with the Holy Roman Empire? They are anti- DP, ya know.

23. Oh yes, then he could become the next St. George
Or if things don't work out, possibly a contender for instant excommunication? I like the latter!
