A water main broke in the northern part of the county so now there's a boiled water advisory for almost the entire county. Gotta boil water for one minute before drinking, cooking, bathing, washing dishes, etc.

We get lots of water main breaks (usually in the winter) and we never got a boiled water advisory. Are they trying pull something over on us? Or am I just paranoid?

1. That's pretty standard. Dirt & crap gets into the pipes while they're mending them.

2. Definitely boil
If the water main breaks, the water arriving at your house is not potable. You may not have had warnings before, but you should have. Sounds like they're doing a better job of informing the citizens.

6. Sorry, but they didn't give an advisory when a main broke in front of my house
So now they give one for a break 10 miles away?
Look at this huge area impacted...

My water pressure is perfectly fine.
I shouldn't be affected at all by this.
Now they are saying boil it for the next three days!

7. Broken pipes can let turd cooties into the water supply and give everybody
major puking and runs. This is basic. No medical terminology necessary.

9. That's usually how it works
also if they have to turn the water off for an extended length of time. It's all about the bacteria.

10. Replying to your own post? I say, you show them you can't be fooled.
Don't boil. Drink 8 glasses of water a day. Then if you have dysentery or some other water borne disease, you will know that you were wrong and crazy.

13. Fooled? Who's the fool?
You bet I won't drink the water. I'm sure there's something wrong with it, but it can't be due to a stupid water main break 10 friggin miles away! They're covering up something!

They undoubtedly have uncovered a plot to contaminate the purity of our precious bodily fluids and they are afraid to tell us the truth! They are afraid we will panic if we knew the truth! Well, I for one won't panic. I will drink nothing but pure bottled Irish whiskey until this emergency is over!
