PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (CNN) -- Sen. John McCain said Friday that every candidate's wife "should be treated with respect, and if there's any disrespectful conduct on the part of anyone, those people should be rejected."

"I have the greatest respect for both Senator and Michelle Obama. ... I've never met her, Mrs. Obama, she's a talented and a very effective person. And I admire both of them. We have stark differences in views," he told CNN's Dana Bash in a one-on-one interview.

to call thier wife a c**t. Who other than Gliff Schecter claims that it happened, in an unauthorized biography no less. I seem to remember a lot of unauthorized biographies about both Bill and Hillary Clinton. Not to mention blatantly false biographical claims about Obama. I didn't take any of those at face value and I do not take this at face value.

Schecter claims this all happened in 1992. If that were really the case, why didn't we hear about this before now?

The word has already gone forth on the Mighty Republican Wurlitzer that the elves in the Republican campaigns consider Michelle Obama to be "fair game," and after the nastiness against Teresa Kerry in 2004, Tipper Gore in 2000 and Hillary Clinton since 1992, it's a pretty safe bet that Mrs. Obama will be subject to the same treatment. The GOP doesn't want to be seen as racist, after all!
