One of the scouts who died went to our church and his funeral is today. It honestly is taking every ounce of my energy to not leave work, drive out there and do something. But, then I remember that is how they make all their money.

14. I am, as well--not advocating it, of course, but I can't believe the families

of all the deceased over the last few years haven't gotten some sort of revenge. I can't imagine being the loved one of a lost soldier or child and having to endure these assholes making a circus out of the funeral of someone they don't even know--I am surprised that their stunts have not provoked violence thus far, although it just goes to show that grief-stricken people make good victims, I guess--too overwhelmed with loss to deal with these jackasses.

But what I hate worse than Phelps is seeing them get attention. Our local media ignores them. ( I am in KC - not far from Topeka) They get far more attention from the national press than they do locally.

A couple years ago they protested at a funeral right up the street from me and I didn't even know about it until I drove by. That's how it needs to be.

Apparently, and this is just what I could gather from their scribblings and inability to articulate, it is God's Law, although they didn't get too specific, that we all be prepared, although, again, they skip on the specifics, and because these Boy Scouts weren't prepared (for what, I have no idea,) they somehow deserved to die and in the end... As sick as this story is, as pathetic as it is, I can't help but wonder what the executives at the Boy Scout organization are thinking as they witness a mirror image of their own hatred repelled right back to them and, at the same time, wonder if they realize how many other gay boys have been hurt by their discriminatory practices that tell them that they are "sinful" and "shameful" and not "worthy of patriotism, valor and honor".

As sick as these protests are, as hurtful as they are to the boys' families and to their fellow scouts, the Boy Scouts of America's willful discrimination against gay youths is equally sick and hurtful and effects a hell of a lot more than just these four.

Those who are appalled only by the homophobia expressed at this funeral while dismissing the systemic homophobia by the Scouts are curiously selective in their sense of compassion.

Maybe there's some good in this after all. Maybe there are some executives within the Boy Scouts who can now see just how ugly they have made the Boy Scouts of America become.

And maybe, just maybe the executives at Boy Scouts might ponder how cruel their policies are and how many boys they have made to feel shamed.

The Bible says, "Be not deceived, God is not mocked. For whatsoever a man soweth that shall he also reap." That would be the very same Bible that the Boy Scouts swear they live by.
