My uncle and aunt live in Hancock County, as do a couple of my brothers. I just spoke to my uncle and aunt and they told me there is some concern about maintaining the water supply for their town. Told me that there is some concern about the levees in the Quincy area. Said that they are expecting record flooding in the bottomlands.

2. Did you post this in the Illinois forum?
You might not get an answer right away, but usually people respond to things posted there.

3. I'm just to the east
Bridges at Burlington & Ft Madison are closed, Keokuk is open but they have to keep closing periodically to build up the approach on the Illinois side. One of the 2 bridges at Quincy is closed.

Levee breaks are on the Missouri side right now but towns without a levee on the Illinois side are underwater.

Crest predictions at Quincy are for thursday but are predicted to be lower than '93 only because of the levee breaks upriver.

4. Yes, check the Quincy Herald Whig web site
I am originally from Quincy and have lots of family and friends there. Everyone is worried the water filtration plant will be flooded, so there was a run on bottled water as the entire town of 47,000+ will lose water if the plant has to shut down. They are worried about the levees near Hannibal, especially on the IL side.

The Quincy bridge has been shut down periodically because of the water threat on the MO side. Several possible levee sites may not hold and other places the water is going over the top as the river rises. At Quincy, Gardner-Denver and other factories close to the river are shut down and the electric shut off due to flooding threat - they now have National Guard posted to prevent looting. Marblehead and Hull are worried that the levees in their areas may break. The levee just above LaGrange, MO also broke, flooding the low lying areas.

You can go to the Quincy Herald Whig web site at http://www.whig.com/
to read more.

Hope your family is safe.

5. CNN Just Reported...
The Missouri side across Quincy has begun to flood...closing the bridge across the river. I think the only crossing open is Keokuk. I'm not sure if Ft. Madison is open. Also, they've reported that "Lake" Carthage, a spillway blew thew the levee near Gulfport, across of Burlington...it's lowered the water level about a foot downstream, but now it's back on the rise.

Seems like many of the public service officials feel confident that things they've done since '93 will help them ride this out. Time will tell. Here's hoping all will be safe and the damage is minimal.
