Military choppers fly over Denver during top secret drill
By David Edwards | Uncategorized | Tuesday, 17 June 2008

A half-dozen military helicopters flew low over parts of Denver Monday night as part of a security drill organized by the U.S. Department of Justice. Denver police said they were aware of the operation, but could provide no details.

The secret drills coincided with preparations for the Democratic National Convention, which will take place in Denver in late August. The Denver Post reported that the military aircraft “buzzed above the Pepsi Center,” the site of the convention..

Denver stocks up on pepper weapon
City orders guns that fire special plastic balls
By Sara Burnett, Rocky Mountain News (Contact)
Tuesday, June 17, 2008

Denver police are stocking up on guns that fire a pepper spray-like substance instead of bullets - a less-lethal weapon used to disperse crowds - in advance of the Democratic National Convention.

The department recently ordered 88 Mark IV launchers and projectiles at a cost "in the low six figures," the company that makes the weapons stated in a news release Monday.

The request was for delivery in advance of the DNC, according to Louisville- based Security With Advanced Technology Inc.

2. I will be here video taping the carnage.
"The whole world is watching."

Those were some scary assed, high tech military tools. Far advanced from the normal medical and news choppers we normally see. I watched for several minutes last night. They ran without lights and were stealth tech machines.

There will be interesting times in Denver in August.

I'm trying to remember where the incident happened that a bunch of protestors were able to prove that a couple guys causing trouble in their ranks were actually cops or agents.

50. Extra memory cards
to store lots of pictures and a blank one to put in the camera in case there is risk of confiscation.

Get the micro memory chips that can be hidden almost anywhere and are tiny enough to elude all but the most rigorous search.

Without evidence, any case is weak.

There are memory cards that can automatically upload pictures to your email account without intervention.

Be sure the time and date stamping is on and the calendar and clock are on time.

If I get my money before then, I'm going to figure out a way to get a RC flown camera up in the sky watching those SOBs like hawks, literally!

I think the best route to go with is WIFI, and use a camcorder with a webcam feature to stream back video over the connection to a ground based PC.

Problem is that it's going to cost, maybe I can get a local TV station to chip in?

They have these MiniZepps, blimps designed to carry high quality cameras. I wonder if the local stations would enter a partnership?

Our neighborhood association gave us a heads up about this a month ago. The notice mentioned that training was scheduled for both June 16 and 17 from 10:00 a.m. to midnight, but no guarantees on when during those periods it would occur.

Those local newspaper stories mention a lot of people who were caught by surprise, but our neighborhood was very aware of it.

BTW, this was not near the Pepsi Center, where the convention will be held. It's across downtown about five miles.

(Forward Looking Infra Red) If I had to guess the "secret operation" is most likely SWAT and Delta teams working together. If you have a lot of high profile people I would assume the city would have a crisis team available "just in case" because there are a lot of idiots out there who do stupid stuff. Never the less keep us informed, I have many relatives that live in the Mile High City and a brother who works at the cash register building.:hi:

We've had a lot of helicopters fly around here over the last few years.
Some of them left the base here last month, but no one outside of the military knows why they left or where they went.

Now I think we know.
I think that this probably is one of those newly upgraded Black Hawks.
They have very sophisticated imaging and communication equipment aboard those choppers.
The latest and greatest in technology, as they say.

If the exercises are continued tonight, as we'd been informed, I will try for more and clearer shots, including the other two helicopter models that were involved last night. I'm not an expert at all, but they were the smaller Bell "bubble" chopper style and a gunship style.

35. After death of Emerson College Student, Boston group seeks end of pepper-ball gun use by police.
Edited on Tue Jun-17-08 02:07 PM by IanDB1
By Andrea Estes, The Boston Globe Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News

Nov. 5--A group of Boston professors, lawyers, and students called yesterday for an immediate ban on the use of so-called "less lethal" weapons in Boston, such as the pepper ball gun that killed Emerson College student Victoria Snelgrove during a Red Sox celebration last month. Members of the group said they have gathered nearly 1,000 signatures in a petition drive launched this week.

Victoria "Torie" Snelgrove (Family Photo)

Victoria Snelgrove (October 29, 1982 – October 21, 2004) was a student who was accidentally killed by Boston police about an hour and a half after the Boston Red Sox's victory over the New York Yankees in the 2004 American League Championship Series. Snelgrove was a junior majoring in journalism at Emerson College, to which she had transferred from Fitchburg State College in the fall of 2003. She was 21 years old when she died. She was mortally wounded near Fenway Park when an FN 303 blunt trauma / pepper spray projectile — classified as a less-lethal weapon — hit her in her eye, causing her to bleed excessively. Ambulances were blocked by the excessive crowds which still refused to clear the area, preventing prompt medical attention from arriving from the dense medical area only a half-mile away. Snelgrove died at 12:50 p.m. EDT at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, about 12 hours after being shot. According to the autopsy, the pellet opened a three-quarter-inch hole in the bone behind the eye, broke into nine pieces, and damaged the right side of her brain. A video of the scene shows the crowd dispersing once they realized the severity of her injury as she lay face-down on the ground bleeding.

Boston Police Department Commissioner Kathleen O'Toole placed the police officer involved in the incident on leave. O'Toole later attended the hour-long funeral on October 27, 2004, at St. John's Catholic church in East Bridgewater, Massachusetts along with Mayor Thomas M. Menino and Gov. Mitt Romney.
