Wow. I just read the dumbest email ever. My GF's Republican friend forwarded it...
Edited on Tue Jun-17-08 02:04 PM by ihavenobias
(NOTE: Below is the forward my GF received. I just want to point out that yes, I know the Jay Leno part is fake, but that's not what bothers me. It bothers me that ANYONE wrote this BS and worse yet, that anyone agrees with it.)

Subject: Fw: It's a Big surprise! Jay Leno on the American Public

What a thankless people we are!!!

Jay Leno wrote this; it's the Jay Leno we don't often
see....

As most of you know I am not a President Bush fan, nor have
I ever been, but this is not about Bush, it is about us, as
Americans, and it seems to hit the mark.

'The other day I was reading Newsweek magazine and came
across some Poll data I found rather hard to believe. It
must be true given the source, right?

The Newsweek poll alleges that 67 percent of Americans are
unhappy with the direction the cou ntry is headed and 69
percent of the country is unhappy with the performance of
the President. In essence 2/3 of the citizenry just ain't
happy and want a change. So being the knuckle dragger I am,
I started thinking, 'What are we so unhappy about?''

A.. Is it that we have electricity and running water 24
hours a day, 7 Days a week?

B.. Is our unhappiness the result of having air conditioning
in the summer and heating in the winter?

C.. Could it be that 95.4 percent of these unhappy folks
have a job?

D.. Maybe it is the ability to walk into a grocery store at
any time and see more food in moments than Darfur has seen
in the last year?

E.. Maybe it is the ability to drive our cars and trucks
from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean without having
to prese nt identification papers as we move through each
state?

F.. Or possibly the hundreds of clean and safe motels we
would find along the way that can provide temporary shelter?

G.. I guess having thousands of restaurants with varying
cuisine from around the world is just not good enough
either.

H. Or could it be that when we wreck our car, emergency
workers show up and provide services to help all and even
send a helicopter to take you to the hospital.

I... Perhaps you are one of the 70 percent of Americans who
own a home.

J.. You may be upset with knowing that in the unfortunate
case of a fire, a group of trained firefighters will appear
in moments and use top notch equipment to extinguish the
flames, thus saving you, your family, and your belongings.

K.. Or if, while at home watching one of your many flat< BR>screen TVs, a burglar or prowler intrudes, an officer
equipped with a gun and a bullet-proof vest will come to
defend you and your family against attack or loss

L.. This all in the backdrop of a neighborhood free of bombs
or militias raping and pillaging the residents.
Neighborhoods where 90% of teenagers own cell phones and
computers.

M.. How about the complete religious, social and political
freedoms we enjoy that are the envy of everyone in the
world?

Maybe that is what has 67% of you folks unhappy.

Fact is, we are the largest group of ungrateful, spoiled
brats the world has ever seen. No wonder the world loves the
U. S. , yet has a great disdain for its citizens. They see
us for what we are. The most blessed people in the world who
do nothing but complain about what we don't have, and what
we hate about the country instead of thanki ng the good Lord
we live here.

I know, I know. What about the president who took us into
war and has no plan to get us out? The president who has a
measly 31 percent approval rating? Is this the same
president who guided the nation in the dark days after 9/11?
The president that cut taxes to bring an economy out of
recession? Could this be the same guy who has been called
every name in the book for succeeding in keeping all the
spoiled ungrateful brats safe from terrorist attacks? The
commander in chief of an all-volunteer army that is out
there defending you and me?

Did you hear how bad the President is on the news or talk
show? Did this news affect you so much, make you so unhappy
you couldn't take a look around for yourself and see all the
good things and be glad? Think about it...... are you upset
at the President because he actually caused you personal
pain OR is it because the 'Media' told you he was failing to
kiss your sorry ungrateful behind every day. Make no mistake about it.

The troops in Iraq and Afghanistan have volunteered to serve
, and in many cases may have died for your freedom. There is
currently no draft in this country. They didn't have to go.
They are able to refuse to go and end up with either a
''general'' discharge, an 'other than honorable'' discharge
or, worst case scenario, a ''dishonorable'' discharge after
a few days in the brig.

So why then the flat-out discontentment in the minds of 69
percent of Americans?

Say what you want but I blame it on the media. If it bleeds
it leads and they specialize in bad news. Everybody will
watch a car crash with blood and guts. How many will watch
kids selling lemonade at the corner? The media knows this
and media outlets are for-profit corporations. They offer
what sell s, and when criticized, try to defend their actions
by 'justifying' them in one way or another. Just ask why
they tried to allow a murderer like O. J. Simpson to write a
book about how he didn't kill his wife, but if he did he
would have done it this way...... Insane!

Turn off the TV, burn Newsweek, and use the New York Times
for the bottom of your bird cage. Then start being grateful
for all we have as country. There is exponentially more good
than bad. We are among the most blessed people on Earth and
should thank God several times a day, or at least be
thankful and appreciative.' 'With hurricanes, tornados,
fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe
thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another
, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks,
'Are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the
Pledge of Allegiance?'

Jay Leno

Please keep this in circulation. There are so many people who need to read this and grasp the truth of it all.

LOL! The entire premise of the email is that we should be happy to live in a relatively free, healthy country. And who provided all those goodies? Liberals! Liberals demanding laws to protect our rights.

Day in the Life of Joe Middle-Class Republican

by John Gray

Joe gets up at 6:00am to prepare his morning coffee. He fills his pot full of good clean drinking water because some liberal fought for minimum water quality standards. He takes his daily medication with his first swallow of coffee. His medications are safe to take because some liberal fought to insure their safety and work as advertised...

http://rationalwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Essay:A_Day_In_The_Life_of_Joe_Conservative|FULL TEXT>

Joe Conservative wakes up in the morning and goes to the bathroom. He flushes his toilet and brushes his teeth, mindful that each flush & brush costs him about 43 cents to his privatized water provider. His wacky, liberal neighbor keeps badgering the company to disclose how clean and safe their water is, but no one ever finds out. Just to be safe, Joe Conservative boils his drinking water...

48. Let's look at them point by point!
A.. Is it that we have electricity and running water 24
hours a day, 7 Days a week? - A result of liberal president FDR's rural electrification project and other liberal laws and regulations that require U.S. utilities to provide services to everyone. Republicans have fought those regulations tooth and nail, and there are still pockets of poor, mostly black communities that lack these basic services.

B.. Is our unhappiness the result of having air conditioning
in the summer and heating in the winter? See above.

C.. Could it be that 95.4 percent of these unhappy folks
have a job? Republicans consistently fight job creation bills - in fact, the Republicans in Congress are fighting a jobs benefit bill right now.

D.. Maybe it is the ability to walk into a grocery store at
any time and see more food in moments than Darfur has seen
in the last year? Many poor neighborhoods in the U.S. actually lack grocery stores, but the Republicans are unwilling to do anything about it. Meantime, the stores we have are stocked with food produced with the support of agricultural subsidies, not to mention U.S. government-sponsored research that Republicans would like to "drown in a bathtub.

E.. Maybe it is the ability to drive our cars and trucks
from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean without having
to present identification papers as we move through each
state? The Bush administration would like to change that, and the Republicans in Congress seem eager to help transform the U.S. into a police state. In any case, can anyone name a country in the world that requires citizens to stop at each state to present papers? In Europe now, people don't have to stop at country borders, much less states! Has the writer of this ever traveled anywhere?

F.. Or possibly the hundreds of clean and safe motels we
would find along the way that can provide temporary shelter? Health and safety regulations were passed by liberals, are protected by liberals, and are constantly under attack by Republicans.

G.. I guess having thousands of restaurants with varying
cuisine from around the world is just not good enough
either. See above. Plus government subsidies and loan programs to start new businesses. More of that liberal "nanny state."

H. Or could it be that when we wreck our car, emergency
workers show up and provide services to help all and even
send a helicopter to take you to the hospital.Government-funded emergency workers and helicopters. Imagine that! Republicans want to get rid of all that wasteful government spending.

I... Perhaps you are one of the 70 percent of Americans who
own a home. Choke. This email seems to a be a little bit out of date - hasn't caught up to the housing debacle yet. However, while we're on the subject, remember all the government-subsidized mortgage programs, not to mention Social Security and other government benefits that enable people to continue living independently in their homes after they retire.

J.. You may be upset with knowing that in the unfortunate
case of a fire, a group of trained firefighters will appear
in moments and use top notch equipment to extinguish the
flames, thus saving you, your family, and your belongings. Who pays those firefighters? Who trained them? Sure, there are volunteer firefighters, but their equipment and training is paid for by the government. And who passed health and safety laws, and consumer protection laws, and sponsored research to develop life-saving technology like fire alarms and sprinkler systems? Those darn liberals - always nosing into other people's business!

K.. Or if, while at home watching one of your many flat< BR>screen TVs, a burglar or prowler intrudes, an officer
equipped with a gun and a bullet-proof vest will come to
defend you and your family against attack or loss Who pays and trains that officer? Who buys and maintains his equipment and weapon?

L.. This all in the backdrop of a neighborhood free of bombs
or militias raping and pillaging the residents.
Neighborhoods where 90% of teenagers own cell phones and
computers. It's nice that we have so many affluent neighborhoods in the U.S., supported by mothers and fathers with good jobs providing government-subsidized health insurance and other benefits for which their large employers receive generous tax breaks. It's too bad that not everybody in the U.S. gets to live in a crime-free neighborhood, but that would require even more liberal government subsidies and support. Meantime, it's easy enough for us to bomb other countries' neighborhoods, thanks to the Republicans, who prefer to wage war abroad than protect our own citizens here.

M.. How about the complete religious, social and political
freedoms we enjoy that are the envy of everyone in the
world? How about that constitutional Bill of Rights? The Republicans would like to replace it with a police state. P.S. Many countries in Europe now have much broader bills of rights in their constitutions, such as protections for gay people, universal healthcare, and other benefits for their citizens that we can only dream about.

32. That's funny.
The e-mailer is actually trying to deny the fact, that in eight short years, the USA went from a beacon of freedom with the worlds strongest economy, and a model of democracy that the world once wanted to emulate; to a country that condones torture, throws people in jail without trial, and is borrowing hundreds of billions of dollars a year from communist China to pay for an occupation of a country that never invaded us, or had any intention of invading us. The US is also desperately trying to invade a second country under the exact same circumstances and lack of pretenses.

I'm trying to figure just what the fuck grocery stores and hotels across the country have to do with this.

That's how I would respond to this at least.

Jobs are getting harder to find but don't worry we are the most free people on earth. Americans are more dissatisfied with the country’s direction than at any time since the New York Times/CBS News poll began asking about the subject in the early 1990s, according to the latest poll.

In the poll, 81 percent of respondents said they believed “things have pretty seriously gotten off on the wrong track,” up from 69 percent a year ago and 35 percent in early 2002.

My fellow citizins and subjects,

I am so happy to be you're president. No really! I am happy, happy, happy!

Its so much hard work that sometimes I have to go to Camp David. Did you know David killed a big giant feller over TWO THOUSAND YEARS AGO??? I think he threw a baseball at his head. I have a pitcher bible that has a pitcher of David killing this big giant feller and it TOTALY RAWKS.

I think its so cool that they named my personal vacation retreat home after a character in the bible!

I know that a lot of Amurcans are unhappy with the way I am doing my job, but I just want to remind them that its hard work and there are terrists EVERYWHERE (except the mall so please go to the mall, especially if you love Amurca and hate those nasty smelly terrists).

Speaking of terrists, did you know that Barrack Obama's middle name is CHARLES MANSON??? I am not making this up!!!! In case you didn't know, Manson kilt a bunch of people with his bear hands and then skinned 'em and made lampshades out of their skin, FREAKY!

Anyway, I have to go and do some hard presidentin' work, so god bless you and make sure your flag lapel pin is on STRAIGHT!

W

P.S. I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY ARE LETTING HOMOS GET MERRIED IN CALIFORNIA, WTF????

just like the U.S. after the Spanish-American War: the Cubans were "ungrateful" we took over just as they were about to become independent, so we just had to take over--and since they didn't want to be taken over, that meant they were uncivilized and thus had to be conquered! Catch-22 says we can do whatever we want.

31. Rebuttals
This is a black-white reversal logical fallacy. "Life isn't horrible and awful, therefore it's perfect and stop bitching."

Be that as it may...

>A.. Is it that we have electricity and running water 24 hours a day, 7 Days a week?

Not sure how long that's gonna last. Remember Enron? Checked your water quality lately? Is there an agency in place that even does this on a regular basis or was it legislated out of existence? The whole infrastructure is crumbling because Dubya'd rather have his war than fix it. It's no longer London Bridge falling down.

>B.. Is our unhappiness the result of having air conditioning in the summer and heating in the winter?

Given the price of energy, can many people afford either? I know somebody who's literally sitting in the dark. She got behind on the bills and her power's been cut off. Yesterday I ran an extension cord over to her place so she could weed-eat her lawn and I let her charge her little battery powered AC inverter and cell phone.

>C.. Could it be that 95.4 percent of these unhappy folks have a job?

Checked the unemployment numbers lately? Even if they have a job, it's at the same wage they were making five years ago and the cost of living has doubled or more. Or their job went to China or India or just disappeared because nobody can afford that new Hummer.

>D.. Maybe it is the ability to walk into a grocery store at any time and see more food in moments than Darfur has seen in the last year?

Darfur's problems have to do with shipping it there and corruption once it gets there. The mindset that wrote this is also opposed to foreign aid. Also, did you know that a typical city only has three days worth of food.

>E.. Maybe it is the ability to drive our cars and trucks from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean without having to prese nt identification papers as we move through each state?

This has got to be the stupidest point yet. You can drive coast-coast through Canada, England, Australia and plenty of other countries.

You DO have to present them every time some County Mounty or Town goon pulls you over and impounds your vehicle for going 1 mph over the speed limit or for driving with a broken taillight (that he breaks retroactively) because the town's so broke they need the ticket revenue and local businesses benefit from you waiting around trying to get your car out of hock.

Now you also have to present credentials to get help during a disaster.

>F.. Or possibly the hundreds of clean and safe motels we would find along the way that can provide temporary shelter?

And what about the hundreds of thousands of roach-infested flop-houses in between?

>G.. I guess having thousands of restaurants with varying cuisine from around the world is just not good enough either.

Have you SEEN the kitchen of a typical restaurant. Ewwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!! The guy who used to inspect it is now the dishwasher.

>H. Or could it be that when we wreck our car, emergency workers show up and provide services to help all and even send a helicopter to take you to the hospital.

Your car wrecked because the roads are undriveable. IF the emergency worker shows up, it will take hours. You get that helicopter ride about the price of a new car. That hospital visit will make you lose your house.

>I... Perhaps you are one of the 70 percent of Americans who own a home.

You mean the one you just lost to a hospital visit? The one you can't afford to heat? The one you can't afford the mortgage payment on or the insurance or the taxes or to fix the roof, leak in the basement or the mold from the soaked drywall? The one where you can't weed-eat the lawn 'cause your power's off due to a brownout or it got cut off and bylaw fines you a fucking fortune to try to keep the city afloat?

>J.. You may be upset with knowing that in the unfortunate case of a fire, a group of trained firefighters will appear in moments and use top notch equipment to extinguish the flames, thus saving you, your family, and your belongings.

Track the growth of the city vs. the number of new firefighters. Also track response time vs. tax base. Get the right combination, they'll show up in time to water down the ashes so they don't drift over to the rich neighbourhood and get their pretty white lawn ornaments dirty.

>K.. Or if, while at home watching one of your many flat screen TVs, a burglar or prowler intrudes, an officer
equipped with a gun and a bullet-proof vest will come to defend you and your family against attack or loss

That happened to me awhile ago. They showed up eventually, took a witness statement, refused to gather evidence and we haven't gotten a phone call in months.

>L.. This all in the backdrop of a neighborhood free of bombs

Somebody's firebombing homes in the West end.

>or militias raping and pillaging the residents.

We've got gangs instead.

>Neighborhoods where 90% of teenagers own cell phones and computers.

In my neighbourhood a lot of them are homeless. Those are their only possessions.

>M.. How about the complete religious,

OK, let's have a Rastifarian run for President. That's gonna go well.

>social

Gay marriage in the USA is front-page news. In several other countries it's a complete yawner. You have to buy an announcement in the paper like everybody else.

>and political freedoms we enjoy that are the envy of everyone in the world?

The USA has been in a right-wing coup since 2000. It has not been, nor will it ever in the foreseeable future be a democracy (think Electoral College). It's a Fascist Republic.

>...Is this the same president who guided the nation in the dark days after 9/11?

Other than LIHOP while reading stories to kids exactly what did "guiding the nation" consist of?

>The president that cut taxes to bring an economy out of recession?

Would you believe "took the nation from a surplus economy to a recession that will probably lead to a Depression bigger than the one in 1929"?

>Could this be the same guy who has been called every name in the book for succeeding in keeping all the spoiled ungrateful brats safe from terrorist attacks?

By attacking the WRONG COUNTRY??!?!

>The commander in chief of an all-volunteer army that is out there defending you and me?

Can you say "stop loss"? I wonder what would happen if somebody tried to un-enlist?

>They are able to refuse to go and end up with either a ''general'' discharge, an 'other than honorable'' discharge or, worst case scenario, a ''dishonorable'' discharge after a few days in the brig.

Bullshit. There's a "refuse to go" case in LBN right now. I understand he's in a bit of hot water.

>blah blah blah blah...'Are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the
Pledge of Allegiance?'

AHA!! Straw man!!!

Nobody's saying anything about doing ANYTHING to the Pledge of Allegiance.

Typical Urban Myth.

33. This is from the idiot pen of Craig R. Smith at WorldNetDaily
Apparently such a coward he can't put his name to what he writes, and has to foist it off on celebrities. His work email (publicly listed BTW) is crsmith@worldnetdaily.com. It sure would be a shame if people got it into their head to sign him up for every spam email service they came across, wouldn't it?

37. So now we're to thank Bush for electricity, restaurants, hotels and running water?
Edited on Tue Jun-17-08 10:09 PM by mzmolly
Man have we lowered the bar on what is expected of our President's.
Apparently all that it "takes" to please some is not to destroy American society as we know it? Well, not completely.

42. For many yrs now there's been a similar Pollyanna fluff flag-waver piece attributed to George Carlin
...that circulates via e-mail {it even ran in our local paper back in the mid 90s!}

Titles include "The Paradox of Our Time," and one that right wingers especially cherrish, the uber macho "Bad American."

From his website:

"PARADOX OF OUR TIME"
One of the more embarrassing items making the internet/e-mail rounds is a sappy load of shit called "The Paradox of Our Time." The main problem I have with it is that as true as some of the expressed sentiments may be, who really gives a shit? Certainly not me.

I figured out years ago that the human species is totally fucked and has been for a long time. I also know that the sick, media-consumer culture in America continues to make this so-called problem worse. But the trick, folks, is not to give a fuck. Like me. I really don't care. I stopped worrying about all this temporal bullshit a long time ago. It's meaningless. (See the preface of "Braindroppings.")

44. So much stupid in one fake mail . . . let's just single one bit of it out.
"Could this be the same guy who has been called
every name in the book for succeeding in keeping all the
spoiled ungrateful brats safe from terrorist attacks? "

CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP

"Why are you clapping?"

"Duh! To keep the TIGERS from attacking!"

"There aren't any tigers around for . . . continents."

"DAMN. This clapping trick is working better than I thought, then!"

Conservatives don't really get that whole "cause and effect" thing very well, do they?

Oh well, repeat a stupid thought over and over again and eventually you'll get enough suckers to believe you, I guess.

If so, then ask why s/he hasn't enlisted to go fight Dumbya's glorious war?
