"Many MANY of you spent months enhancing Bush's claims that Iraq had "Weapons of Mass Destruction" Then you all claimed in hindsight that you *didn't know* that you never heard from *the critics of the Iraq war and wished you had* bla bla bla bla (never mind that numerous *regular people* with nothing more than access to google knew differently)"
Yes, because google gave you access to news reports by other journalists that went against the grain of conventional wisdom and reported the truth behind the lies that led to the Iraq War, including journalists at some oft-excoriated "MSM" publications as the Washington Post.

"I have watched over the last eighty something hours, as every media figure known to man has ventured out of the woodwork to mourn and honor Tim Russert--to the point where there really hasn't been any other actual *news* being reported by so called news outlets 24 hours a day."
I can't speak for the rest of them, but here's a snippet from my own brief obit of the man that will be in my paper tomorrow (world exclusive! :) ): "He was also more than that guy who lowered the bar incredibly on “tough journalism” with his moderating on Meet the Press, in which he’d ask some ridiculous gotcha question by playing back video of some politician speaking out in favor of something he or she was now against, watch impassively while said politician lied to his face, and then fail to call out the politico on his or her lies. Not that I’m one to talk smack of the dead, but, Jesus, if that’s tough journalism, I’m Torquemada."
So, it's not as if press coverage is universally positive. Although, I should point out that I also highlight some positive aspects of Russert in that piece.

"There are still U.S. soldiers dying in Iraq, there are still people who cannot afford medical treatment, there are people losing their homes daily, there are people begging borrowing and stealing just to buy the gas to drive to work and the state of Iowa appears to be on it's way to becoming largely under water..."
And the only reason you're even aware of that is because of the media.

Point being, I do think there is room to criticize the extensive coverage of Tim Russert's death. But I also think that, when you begin your post as an open letter to all of the media and excoriate everyone in the industry, you're painting a broad brush over a lot of good people.
