Dominant, aggressive women more likely to produce sons, study finds
Dominant, aggressive women are more likely to have sons than daughters, scientists believe.

A study in New Zealand found a possible link between high testosterone levels in women and giving birth to boys.
The findings question the idea that the sex of babies is determined by chance.

A team led by Dr Valerie Grant of the Department of Medical and Health Sciences at the University of Auckland, found a link between high levels of the male hormone testosterone in cows' wombs and their likelihood to have a bull calf.

Don't like the Telegraph's use of "battleaxe" mothers, but I have heard this a few times now.

2. I thought the sex was determined by the father.

5. Oh, why let THAT little fact ruin such a headline-grabbing theory?

8. It is, but most sperm don't make it (of course), and most fertilized eggs aren't
carried to term, IIRC. The environment may make a big difference as to survival rate in both.

17. Me, too.
Years ago, it was common knowledge that slightly nervous or maybe self-conscious men produced girls. So then the opposite would produce boys, but really, who knows?

19. True - but not that simple
The woman's chemistry can favor male or female sperm. (If you take my mom and her 7 daughters' children, we are well outside the 3 sigma range - there are far more girls than expected.)

6. Wow. Science is so smart. They can couple it with their lesbian/gay study
to prove that lesbian battleaxes produce more sons.

It reminds me of that "Gay Brain" nonsense that came out in the 90s from a high level eugenics organization. So did that "Gay Brothers/Twins" study. I hate these obviously simplistic and impossible studies.

What's "aggressive"? What about "passive aggressive"?

Soon we'll have a study: "nice people" have larger brains than "not-nice" people.

15. I'm an exception
My mother is a aggressive domineering shrew of a woman whom I ashamed to call my mother but that's for a different discussion. My father is a quiet low key man who rarely says two words and is sort of an afterthought in my life and in growing up. These two produced 4 daughters and one son....

16. I'm very wimpy, yet I have two boys.
But I'm not especially feminine, for what that's worth. I always thought I was a bit low in female hormones, though not high in male ones.
