Please send you wishes to Phyills and Del
These wonderful ladies are pioneers. They've been together for over 50 years and yesterday they were one of the first couples to get LEGALLY married.

Please take the time to send these beautiful women a thank you note and wish them the best.

2. Very cool
I read the article about them in the Times today, and they have indeed lived through a great sweep of history these past 5 decades.

May the rest of their days be happy and healthy. :toast:

5. Thanks for the idea
I remember reading about them, and the Daughters of Bilitis, which they started in the early 50s, in a LGBT history class when I was an undergrad. They have been so brave for so long. It's a joy to know that they have managed, finally, to marry. I'm only sorry they had to wait this long.

14. So that's what the Daughters of Bilitis was
When my mother first explained homosexuality to me, when I was maybe 11 or so, circa 1958, she told me there was an organization for homosexual men called the Mattachine Society and one for lesbians called the Daughters of Bilitis. And I felt kind of jealous that as a straight person I didn't get to have organizations with cool, exotic names like those.

I rarely ever heard of the Daughters of Bilitis after that, and never learned anything more about it, but the name always stuck with me. So on that basis alone, I'm glad to give Phyllis and Del three cheers and say You go girls!

Here to Phyllis and Del!!!!

:toast:

I'm starting to get all nervous about my OWN wedding this weekend. Been there, done that .. but NOW it's LEGAL!! My step mom is coming down for it, she missed out wedding in 2001 cuz my dad was too sick. But I am so HONORED she is going to be here for this one.

I am so blessed to have a great family.

13. oh a big CONGRATS to you and yours....
all of this is somewhat bittersweet for me though. My sis had the rotten luck to fall head over heals with a citizen of the UK. Until the federal gov't recognizes gay marriages, they cannot have access to this particular type of happiness. But goddamit thats a battle for another day, for today its congrats all those getting legal recognition of their unions here in cali!!!
