Impeachment not off the table
But when, we might ask, would it be too late to prosecute, say, a murder charge? And how can political expediency override the absolutely primary responsibility of the Congress of preserving the Constitution and the rule of law? As I asked Pelosi in a letter in response to her "off the table" position, given the startling number and severity of the accusations (especially compared with those levied against Bill Clinton or even Richard Nixon), "what, then, would it take?"
Finally, we must remember that a majority of Americans did vote to elect Bush in 2004 even after all the revelations of torture, fraudulent war-related claims, illegal incarcerations and gross incompetence had come to light. Thus,
all this has been done in our names, has been at least partly paid for with our taxes and we are, therefore, complicit, unless we act now to demand of our national elected officials that they perform their primary duty to uphold the Constitution and initiate impeachment proceedings against Bush and Dick Cheney.I urge you to contact all the members of the House Judiciary Committee to do just that. You can Google a list of the committee members' phone numbers and e-mail addresses and call or mail them, urging them to sign on to Kucinich's impeachment resolution. If sufficient numbers of U.S. citizens do this, they will act.
