26. There is no question about that. |
|
I don't think either of these teams were quite the level of the 84 or 86 Celtics, or the '96 Bulls.
BUT, they do have potential. :)

17. Bill Russell once did... |
|
Edited on Tue Jun-17-08 10:58 PM by Davis_X_Machina
April 25, 1965. Game 5. Celtics 129, Lakers 96. The Celtics opened the fourth quarter with a 20-0 run. They outscored the Lakers, 72-48, in the second half. Russell later wrote, "We were not just beating this team. We were destroying it ... It was my worst moment in sports. There was the horror of destruction, not the joy of winning."

15. Home advantage is too obvious in sports |
|
With the exception perhaps of baseball. I don't follow hockey much so I don't know how much of an advantage playing at home is, but I know that in the NFL and NBA you are almost guaranteed a win if you play at home.

Next year, Bynum will be healthy, and Ariza will be back full time. The bench is deep. The Purple and Gold will be scary good!
This round was like '84. Next year is '85! The Lakers are young and will be ready for a much more dominating season.
GO LAKERS!!! 2009!!! :D

Congratulations Celtics! Too bad I fell asleep AGAIN in the 3rd period and just woke up to find that you indeed had won your 17th NBA Championship.

23. Undoubtedly one of the Greatest Performances by a Team in NBA Finals History |
|
Edited on Wed Jun-18-08 12:15 AM by TheWatcher
The Celtics earned this one, hands down.
I think the Lakers were the better team, talent wise, but the Celtics showed tonight it takes much more than that to win a championship.
*Darth Vader Voice* I haven't felt a Defensive Presence Like This Since......

25. Well, it's just my opinion. And I'm a CELTICS fan. |
|

So please, send the barbs elsewhere. I'm on your side for God Sake.
I feel that the Lakers WERE the better team talentwise, especially on the offensive end, but I should have emphasized this, NOT BY MUCH. This was about as even a match up as you could ever wish for in the Finals.
In the end it came down to the old addage, "Defense wins Championships." It's been a bit since I saw a defensive performance as impressive as the one the Celtics displayed in these Finals. Can you imagine if these Celtics had gone up against the Bad Boys in 1989 or 1990 in the ECF? Now THAT would have been a WAR.
And the Lakers had absolutely NO answer for Paul Pierce. He is just flat out amazing to watch, is he not? The Pick and Roll trumped the Triangle.
Also, the Celtics just had the chemistry. They simply wanted it more, and it showed. They deserved win this series, hands down.
And if both these teams stay intact, this could be the beginning of a great renewal of this rivalry.
